Diggers

So, its not so much the silly antics but rather the lack of professionalism diggers display.

That's what annoys me about them. They don't really know what they're doing.

I've watched the first two seasons

If it's not about the silly antics, what is it they are doing that displays a lack of professionalism? They fill their holes, remove the trash, and all of the manicured lawns they search show no signs of being tore up. Their finds get displayed neatly for the landowner/organization to view. Can you cite specific examples of how they don't know what they are doing? And if you can't stand them, why in the world would you watch the entire first two seasons? Could it be you are just jealous that some people get paid well to do what is only a hobby for you, and that they actually have a personality? I'm jealous of them, but I am decent enough not to trash them. They put out entertaining content regarding a hobby I enjoy. It gets quite old to watch amateur videos with a monotone speaker digging in some park that has been detected 100 times before.

OMG, I can’t believe it’s Rick James b*tch! :headbang:

I could go on for hours about why diggers aren’t at a professional level. Search patterns, decisions on what targets to dig, digging methods, etc.

But what really annoys me is what was mentioned earlier about their ridiculous assessments of what each object is and their historical connection.
I find the exact same crud here. Does it all belong to famous people and major events?
Their lack of knowledge in identifying every day relics show how little experience they have in the field.
Speaking of lack of experience, an episode shows one of them finding their first shield nickel after how many years of detecting?
A guy named King George finds his first George III coin? John Wayne’s childhood toys?
Like I said, I could on for hours about the insanity of this show.
Why did I watch the first two seasons? Because I like to examine things before I pass judgment. I wanted to know why there’s thread after thread about these guys.
As painful as it was, I took it all like a man and now I believe I have the right to comment on this subject.
Finally, I do not get jealous period. Not a trait I ever succumbed to.
I am truly happy for anyone who finds something that brings them joy as long as they have integrity about it.
Selling out on a hobby that I love is a different story. I believe the term prostitute was used earlier……
Enjoy the show! I don’t and that’s O.K.

I get a kick out comments about how good could they be if they have not found but one of these are one of those. If everyone knew how big and how few people where here when sheild nickels and large cents where lost, they would not say things like this. I have met more people that have found gold coins than large cents in Montana. It's

Maybe so many people like it because they are NOT professionals, ever think about that, I doubt you did...not everyone is a professional like you...Montanagold said none of their finds are planted, so since you are calling him a liar, give us your proof that the gold coin was planted...you say you wanted to know why there was thread after thread about these guys...its because people like you watched Two Full seasons...too funny, you couldn't make stuff like this up.

Go back to every diggers thread and see how many posts I've made towards the subject.....5 maybe?
How does that make me responsible for the numerous threads when I watched the first two seasons on you-tube?
I don't follow your logic.
You on the other hand have numerous posts. You're passionate about the show. I get that.
I was asked to explain why I don't think they are professional and gave my answers.
I really don't see the need to defend my opinion and surely I'm not the first to think the gold coin was planted as it's been explained numerous times before on numerous threads.
Keep on enjoying the show!

Im not passionate about the show, Im passionate about the people that have unfounded reasons for hating the show and telling lies about the show...now sit and think about that...I defend the show because people say" Oh, its going to ruin our hobby"...Ive only seen PROOF of positive things the show has done...no PROOF of the negative. If you don't like the show fine...but don't tell me to not like it...and don't make up things that you don't know.

Man you guys are still going on about this is almost entertaining, me missed reality ? I don't think so bud. Nothing real about anything on TV.
As for whoever it was that said somebody just finding a first this or that makes them less of a detectorist..Bleh! I say to that..I spent the intire 80's running full discrim on my 1265... Never found a single nickel because of it, but I found buckets of silver back then, now that the silver is almost all dug up in my places, or too deep, now I dig my nickels, not finding something specific has nothing to do with skill, if your coil never passes over one.
I know a couple of brothers that have been detecting side by side since the mid 60's one of them has never found a gold coin the other has found more than 20, same machines hunting the same locations, its all about being in the right spot at the right time.
Now I cannot wait for spring, been talking to real old timers all winter and have secured permission to hunt some great virgin land, enough to keep me busy for a couple years at least.
Happy Hunting.

I thought you were saying the mentally challenged comment was sarcasm...disregard the reality comment if you weren't.

If u would see some of the rif raf that I have ran into now. I ask them why they got into detecting amd there reply was "how much stuff is worth on the tv shows". I have had to clean up so many holes and what not from these idiots. So I guess there not ruining the hobby huh??

New guy here, the bad thing about a lot of these shows [Diggers, Wild west Alaska, Pickers] for me is when I see something I know is made up or wrong, it makes me wonder when something interesting that I don't know about happens, then I have doubt about it, for me it takes a lot away from the show..

Sounds a little fake to me. Approaching people and asking them why they started detecting... Ringy and KG do not leave holes in a mess, so focus your discontent on the people who are poorly trained, rather than a television show that introduced the idea. I suppose when you see a violent movie with guns on television, and there is gun violence in your area, it's the movie's fault? The logic behind the view that this television show is ruining the hobby is ludicrous. I guess we should shut down the Internet and cable TV, because it gives ideas and spreads information to others, right?

Awesome, you will love it. I wasn't a big fan of the balancing, and it often tired me out. The Deus has been proven to be a great detector, by many established people I follow on YouTube. You just have to know how to set it up for the conditions. And besides, the legend Andy Sabisch has written TWO detector specific books; Explorer/E-Trac and now the Deus. If he stands behind it, its got to be good.

I can't believe I'm posting on ANOTHER diggers thread but I'd like to address the label that the "Haters" often get.

First, It's not about age on my part. I'm exactly 40 years old, which puts me right in the middle of the old farts and the young punks.

Second, I've been playing pranks on my partners and acting silly for most of the 30 years I've been detecting.

Third, I'd like to explain the "Elitism" that's been mentioned about the opposing side.....

Does a professional fisherman watch Jimmies first fishing video on you-tube when he trips on his line, gets snag after snag, and loses all his bait?

Does a tennis pro watch Billy Jo's first tennis match against someone who is ranked 12,561 in the world?

Does a heavy weight champion boxer watch a hidden video of two drunk fat slobs slugging it out in the parking lot of a local dive?

So, its not so much the silly antics but rather the lack of professionalism diggers display.

That's what annoys me about them. They don't really know what they're doing.

I'm not even worried about the show bringing more into this hobby because if you learned how to detect from watching diggers, then you'll never become much of a hunter!

I've watched the first two seasons on you-tube and found it very painful because these guys suck!

I'm not a snob and will watch amateurs hunt but give two guys who don't know what they're doing a T.V. show, that makes them representatives of me and my hobby which is what makes my stomach churn the most.

Diggers ain't all that!!!!

BTW, the New Orleans gold coin was 100% planted no doubt.

O.K. now this is the LAST time I post on another diggers thread! :laughing7:

Cheers,
Dave.

Yeah, but what kind of machines are those that they're using? Must some super secret new technology that they're working with ........ the machines just keep beeping and beeping, whether they are over target or not! Must take a really special ear to operate. I have also noticed you only have to sweep their coils 12-15" side to side with no overlap - incredible stuff they have access to! Probably why they never go home without finding anything.

I was talking with the people and it came up in the conversation. No I'm not one of thise people that blame everything on what happens in movies, Just sayin that just not this show but the rest with there ridiculous pricing of the finds is what's killing it.

Come on guys this thread has gone on enough, all its doin instead of given opions is making enemies with each other from both sides of the fence, cuz one doesnt like the others post, well I dont think thats what any of us,are actually here for. Its a good Forum, with many good people we should just be sharing tips, find stories something thats benefical to the hobby
