Hello folks, many of us have very creative usernames. I thought since I was not doing nothing right now, it would be nice to see why some people chose their usernames on here.

I'll start off.

Many people think that I am from Buffalo, NY. I am not from Buffalo, NY.

I chose this username because when I was a young boy, probrably 5 or 6, my grandfather gave me a few coins, and in them, some dateless buffalo nickels. I thought that the buffalo nickel was the most interesting coin, and I started collecting them.

Needless to say, buffalo nickels with no date are only worth face value, maybe add a penny or two.

The buffalo nickel still remains my favorite coin to collect, plus, who knows what goodies you can find in nickel boxes...

When I started first reading this forum in late August I noticed that essentially everyone on here was american, where as I am Canadian and can only hunt canadian coins. When I decided to join up I realized that I would be the only Canadian on here, and so to everyone else I would seem to be "That Canadian Guy" amongst all you americans. I thought it was a good, self explanatory name so that when ever some one would read my posts they would remember that I was Canadian. I am no longer the only Canadian on this forum but 1 out of 2.

Yeah, but you're still the first!

Happy Hunting!

Well, let's see...I thought Old Dude just sounded better than " Middle Aged Dude "( I am only 51 next Sunday ) and my avatar is my first truly good find!

Happy Hunting!

Got a nasty disease that keeps me dizzy about half the time when I'm
walking or standing. There's 2 nerves that control balance in our ears,
and one of my has been surgically severed (intentionally) and the other is
currently decaying rapidly as the disease does it's thing.

I've switched to dry ground hunting for gold, so there's a lot of digging
involved. That was mostly due to the bad balance, as there are no slippery
boulders, or water to fall into when working dry placers or detecting for
nuggets.

Username was a no-brainer..lol

Added: Forgot to mention my avatar. Nothing special; just a pic of me from the
old family album...8-)

My 13 year old daughter recently discovered the 2005 series of Dr. Who on Netflix and got the whole family hooked--the episode that did it for me was Blink. Before then I thought Dr. Who was some kind of weird, British sci-fi cult thing--which I suppose it is--but so well done it's irresistible to anyone with a sense of adventure who enjoys a good laugh, looking at unbelievably pretty women and contemplating "what if's" in regard to the "wibbly-wobbly, spacey-wacely thing" we call time. Anyway, my daughter thought the Doctor would make a great avatar, and any chance I get to remain relevant to my kids I grab! (If you pay attention, you will also find another Dr. Who avatar on this forum, though my Dr., the 10th incarnation of the character since his inception, is much, much cooler than his, which is the 11th.

And as far as the "Bad Wolf" thing goes, you'll just have to watch the series...

I was in the Navy for 9 years. 5 of which were spent on a destroyer that only saw homeport rarely. We would spend countless days underway, and being in the ocean during slow steaming ops, I would fish off the fantail for tuna and whatever else lurked in the surrounding waters. If we were doing less than 5 knots and I wasn't on watch or sleeping, you would find me back there dragging lures behind the USS Peterson, DD-969, may she rest peacefully with Davy Jones.

So I trolled(troll) to catch fish(fish) and I actually landed some Mahi Mahi, Yelow and Bluefin tuna and did battle with a Blue Marlin about the size of an SUV off the coast of western Africa. He won that round, but it was one of the most memorable 3 minutes I have ever had. The fish that were landed were cleaned, cooked and fed to the crew. It was something special to have 360 people thank you for fresh tuna or mahi-mahi dinner.

When I left the ship, I was presented with a ships cap, and embroidered on the back was my official nick name, Trollfish. I still have it and wear it fishing.

Once in a while I run into an old crew member, they can't remember my name all the time, but they remember that crazy guy fishing off the back of the destroyer and actually catching fish! LOL

Being that I have the stature of a Dwarf, some people confuse this with me actually being a troll. I can accept that. I ain't short, I am just a condensed version of Paul Bunyan.

Avatar is a troll at home under a bridge, panning for gold and waiting on those damned Billy Goats Gruff....this time it will be a mutton dinner or bust.

USERNAME: Based on a nickname I got when I was in the military.

AVATAR: From an 80's television show called "The Mysterious Cities of Gold".

Funny thing my thread was brought up, keep the entries coming folks especially with all of our new members!

Cougar is for the car I drove in high school, Mercury Cougar. 729 is the month and day of my birthday July 29

Avatar is a pic of my motorcycle, Honda Rebel, like riding on nice sunny days

DaytonaRacer = I own a '93 Dodge Daytona ES (final year of production). I dragraced her regularly from 2001 through last season (she currently awaiting some serious repairs right now). Over 193K miles on the original un-rebuilt engine and she's still deadly consistent in the 1/4. Everyone at NJ's Raceway Park knows the car well. Won many, many events with her - including an NHRA Wally.

The avatar = Love Married With Children. Al's been my avatar for a long time - his pic just seems to fit me so well.

My username is a warning from a Dr. Who episode that scared the socks off me.

THE DOCTOR’S SPEECH:
Don’t blink.
Blink and you’re dead.
Don’t turn your back.
Don’t look away.
And don’t blink.
Good Luck.

“Fascinating race, the Weeping Angels. The only psychopaths in the universe to kill you nicely. No mess, no fuss, they just zap you into the past and let you live to death. The rest of your life used up and blown away in the blink of an eye. You die in the past, and in the present they consume the energy of all the days you might have had, all your stolen moments. They’re creatures of the abstract. They live off potential energy.”

My Avatar is from Dr. Who also. It is a picture of the Centurion guarding his wife for 2000 years because she was trapped in the Pandorica.

FishFood = so I was about a mile and a half off of the beach in my kayak, trying to nail down one of many wrecks we have off of the NJ coast with my GPS/DS fishfinder and a center console powers over to me. He see's me geared up to jump in and strikes up a conversation. After a little talking, he tells me I'm just "FishFood" for being out here. It just stuck. I use it on most of the forum boards I subscribe to.
I do a lot of kayak freediving/spearfishing and regular hook and line fishing , inshore and offshore. I'm primarily an underwater hunter, for fish/bugs and treasure'd items.

I don't think I discussed my new avatar. It is a Polish coin with Józef Piłsudski, either a 5 or 10 złotych. I wanted to display my Polish heritage, and someone who I admire for bring about the Republic of Poland and freeing it from foreign powers.

Screen name is one I came up with years ago in the military to use when I was deployed in other countries. I used that one just while away from home but now since I'm not over "there" nearly as much I use it on forums and such.

I traveled the world for 6 years in the Air Force on C141s and C17s. My name "Twiasp" are the first letters of a phrase that has meaning to me "The world is a small place".

Avatar has no meaning just felt like putting up the old orange Oscar the Grouch =P

Because I can buy a lot more silver than gold with the same money. The way I see it, you buy one (1) gold eagle for $1250, you can buy 177 90%ers. Gold goes up $30, it's worth $1280. Silver goes up $1, your 177 coins are now worth $1311. More for the money.

True but wouldn't the same be true when silver / gold goes down?

My user name has some pretty deep meaning...I wanted a name with AG in it, as in chemical symbol for silver. So I googled words with AG in them...and picked the coolest one I could find lol.

As for my avatar, it is my coolest crh find thus far: an 1854 large cent found in a bag of halves a few months back

We're looking for the positive. Price goes down, I buy more. It's not going to stay down. Just a few years ago I was buying $400 a month when it was $6-$8 an ounce. Silver was plentiful, no one was buying. Boom the price goes up, people think, "I should buy". Some people were buying when it hit $40. Then the next downturn shows up. It's here, I'm buying again (in addition to CRH). As for the gold/silver ratio, gold has dropped almost $550 an ounce, silver $15. Granted it's a drop. On New Years Day, I added up all my silver and it was worth $100,000. Today it's $62,600. While it's down, I add.
