Found close to main house about 9.5 " down
about the size of my hand. I thought maybe off tractor or something like that?
odd looking and couldnt get a match on Google lens

Looks to me like a buckle of some kind. Possibly horse tack.

Might be part of an ox yoke.

Could be part of a flat link belt chain assembly. This part was where the cogs stuck up and the chain link dropped over each cog.
Cleaning it up might help, hammer some of the rust off.

Looks like a leveling plate for harnessing a team. I believe a rigging would have 2 such plates; 1 for each pair of horses.

What I thought, would be on each end of a doubletree set up and would allow 3 different leveling points for cases where the team are not the same height. They would be connected to the leveling bar and a “tree” would hang from each.
Again, I’m not certain of this. Just what I think it may be.

I would think it is a part of horse harness also And if it is is very cool Think of all the parts needed to put together a set of harnesses to do any type of work on the farm And than remember those p[arts where hand made It was no simple task to have it all n order to complete the task . Some may not think much of it But it is a just one more item that was needed to survive on the farm

I agree in hand forged. Looks like you could run three leather buckle straps through it. But finding a similar one could be hard as it may be a one off from the smith. Cool "What is it".
