Found close to main house about 9.5 " down
about the size of my hand. I thought maybe off tractor or something like that?
odd looking and couldnt get a match on Google lens

As far as I'm aware only cow would have been for milking and maybe a few for meat...
Corn, cotton and peanuts is what has always been farmed there( and still is )

when a cow farm has hundreds of cows in a barn there is a drop chanel behind the cows so when the drop cowpies it drops in the channel and the buckets are dragged onto a wagon . without this they would need a dozen dummies with a shovel and a wheelbarrows . and these are the links of chain that drags the buckets...

Not a cow farm ever buddy... cotton and corn since at least the 1830's b4 that I'm not sure but no one in the area that I'm aware of ever had cow herds. Strictly ag

You are describing a gutter.
"Barn cleaners".
Usually chain driven.

Did you ever make any progress on ID? I just found exactly the same thing in Maryland on a 1700's - late 1800's farm. It was with these other pieces.

I have not unfortunately. The farm I found mine on was late 1700's - now
If you find anything out please let me know !
