Folks, Are we over regulated.......

LinkHylian,

There are some good reasons why North Americans are overweight.

Browse through any supermarket and you'll notice that healthy food is at least twice the price as junk food. Fast food places with their value meals are a quick cheap meal (even though it's dog food) and has the most T.V. commercials penetrating the zombie brains.
Parents don't know any better because they have been programmed by the flashing, colourful lights, flickering on the almighty television set.
Plus the cost of living is getting higher every year and people can only afford so much. This is why they're working two jobs. How can they make a proper meal when they have no time?
The present generation is stuck like glue to their technological gadgets and rarely exercise anymore.
Schools don't even make physical education mandatory anymore and they certainly aren't teaching kids about a proper diet.
You can thank capitalism for all the junk food. Cheaper, processed crap means more profit for the shareholders.
Cheers,
Dave.
You can also thank capitalism for making America the most prosperous nation the world has ever known....Although Obama is doing his best to drop our standing on the world stage.....

That started happening way before Obama. I wouldn't give any past president or either political party a free pass on that one would you?

You got a point Stockpicker, BUT you have to admit that he is pushing it harder and faster than any that came before him. Frank

I agree Stockpicker, and no I don't give anyone a free pass.....

how is he doing that? seriously, can I have three examples? maybe two? You know, with something besides, bows to other country leaders, or is gonna confiscate our guns. Hey, gitmo is still open, the transpacifictradepact is moving along handily and the stockmarket is up. and thank dog, I don't have to worry about an increase in taxes on my $400K a year salary. Just what are you guys smoking?

Muddy I think you were talking about chubby people. I think the rate of obesity is directly proportional to the size of a television set. Remember when years ago they were 2 feet thick and we never bothered about weight of people. Now they are 1 in thick and every ones 2 feet wider. Just a thought.

New rule I really hate When i play televised poker I must refer to a spade flush as all Blue?/ Whats up with that? Political correctness run a muck

He's doing it by skewing the laws to enhance the unworking class while taking more from the working class. The only reason the stock market topped out was from relief that he didn't get his way about raising taxes again. He doesn't manage the federal work force budget as he should causing extreme waste of our money. There are so many wasted studies like that million+ that was spent to determine childrens reaction to robots!!!! Frank

I think bush II really got the ball rolling shall we say. Between tax cuts, wars and cheap drugs for all seniors he had the fiscal responsibility of a far left liberal democrat. Neither bush nor Obama get a free pass in my opinion. I think it was a 1, 2 punch that is going to take a real long time to recover from.

I'm a registered republican and never let the party forget what they are responsible for - dont give them a free pass. Hold them responsible!! They were suppose to be the fiscally responsible party so they are even more to blame in my opinion.

Just my 2 cents.

Don't get me started on prescription drugs! Drug companies charge more for there drugs in the USA than any other country in the world. True you don't see it because of the medical programs like insurance, etc.
Note: I am not taking any prescription drugs. Frank

You mean thank capitalism for making America prosperous which in turn, made Communist China even more prosperous?
:laughing7:

Communist china is only as prosperous as they are because they don't play by the rules....lets be real.

They are where they are because of America's insatiable appetite for cheap consumer goods - pure and simple. But their day of reckoning is coming soon. Looks of unrest behind the scenes. Cheap labor jobs moving to Vietnam. Bangladesh, Philippines, etc. I wouldn't touch a Chinese stock with a ten foot pole. Of course that means that Walmart won't be quite as cheap as folks might want it to be - so get ready.

It's ok Diesel, I'll still like your post. I've noticed you and I go back and forth on some issues and I enjoy our bantering and never take it personally. I am ALL FOR personal responsibility, I don't know if you mentioned that because you think I'm not or just because that's the topic you were wanting to discuss.
Personally, it's difficult for me to walk through stores and see the hordes of overweight parents and children. To some extent, because I'm a fellow human, I feel it is slightly my responsibility to help them. Also, that's it's slightly my responsibility that they are like that.
How many of us walk through the store and look into carts of others only to see chips, soda, frozen EVERYTHING followed by 2 screaming children that the parents swear have been properly diagnosed with ADHD or Aspergers?
As humans we have a responsibility to say hey, your damaging your children, your hurting them. Don't parents have pride anymore in there children? Don't parents just DIE INSIDE when they see bad parenting and bad choices?
Of course, I'm all for demolishing McDy's and Arbys along with the other fast food "fat giants."
This is driving me mad, I'm gonna make a Forum. You better visit it Diesel!

FYI: ADHD and Asperger's are genetic. That are not caused by what people eat. I'm not willing to discuss this any further because I know a lot of people on here disagree with this. However, I did want to let you know the opinion of somebody who treats those patients on a regular basis.

Also, don't confuse misbehaved children due to bad parenting with ADHD...they are totally different things.

Food for thought,
Crispin

You got the wrong word. You meant to say inversely proportional. Directly would mean as one goes up the other goes up. Inversely means, as one goes up the other goes down and vice versa. So if it was direct, as the weight of televisions went down weight of people would go down. As it is inverse, as television weight does down individual weight goes up.

That being said, it was still very clever of you.

I can agree with you on this but don't you think the unfair tariffs have something to do with it?

Treats those patients or just try different new pills the pharmacy rep sold you last week? I'm a firm believer that ADHD and Aspergers are developmental issues stemming from what the mother does during pregnancy, i.e, food/liquid/excercise or lack there of along with parenting afterwards. Of course there is no proof of this, NOR is there proof that it is hereditary. In many cases of aspergers, the children are born with an insanely low count of iron in their system. As for ADHD, they have found those children are missing many required minerals.

I bet if a study was done, pregnant mothers that ate at McDy's regularly would be found to have a higher rate of ADHD. Crazy sounding right? Crazy if you don't believe it. That crap CHANGES and MORPHS ARE DNA.

I don't think too many people agree with me, but I don't think a lot disagree either. I mean seriously, how many psycho kids have we seen that the parents are just like oh yeah, they have ADHD. If you don't spend QUALITY PRODUCTIVE time with your children, HANDS ON TIME with legos, lincoln logs, parks outside, whatever, I do not think they will have some hyperactive disorder.

We all know the type of parent, on their cell phone all the time, watching T.V, can't miss the latest show, Facebook constantly. THOSE are the parents of children with ADHD because they caused their children to have that. It's not some disease, it's not detectable by blood tests, it's a FRAME OF MIND PEOPLE. Kids with ADHD need hobbies, outside hobbies. NOT VIDEO GAMES AND TV.

Have you ever told a parent with a child that has ADHD that maybe they aren't spending enough time with them? Maybe not spending quality time? Or are you just saying YUP, another one, Riddelin here you go.

"ADHD impacts school-aged children and results in restlessness, acting impulsively, and lack of focus which impairs their ability to learn properly." Sounds like bad parenting and not enough quality time with parents to me.
