I caught this last night on my trail cam, I had to brighten the image a little to see it clearer. Not sure if this is a fox or coyote. Any help on identifying this critter. To me it looks like a grey fox based on his nose but I just want a second opinion.

I'd go with a fox. The neck kind of looks to be a little thick, though that might be just the nice winter coat.

The face loooks like a 'coon to me, but it's probably just a chupachabra. : )

Too bad you didn't catch the tail in the photo. The tail of a coyote hangs straight down most of the time.

I think it looks like a sock puppet. I've never seen a fox like that but it certainly looks more fox-like than coyote.

It's a fox, a red fox, a juvenile red fox.......

or a juvenile grey fox.......leaning towards grey now (edit)

Whichever it is, if it was a full grown adult the nose would be a lot longer.

I use to get a lot of them on my camera, none for about 8 months.

My first thought was grey fox. And by the time I had read doe to Tedyoh's post there was no doubt.

We raise chickens and I see them occasionally. Coyote's have a much longer nose and more of an angle between the forehead/eyes and nose. Foxes are more evenly "sloped".

I set my trail cam in the same spot, in the woods near my house. This time with a 9 photo burst and 5 second time out, last time I used a 3 photo burst and 30 second time out. I also used left over salmon to attract it. Hopefully I will get better photos this time :)

Thanks for the help guys, five years ago there was a grey fox in the same area. I have never seen a red fox near our yard, though I have seen them elsewhere in my town. We have also had a chicken attacked last year, which was my fault for forgetting to put her away that night :(. A few days later a grey fox was spotted in the yard. I have heard loud rustling, of some dog sized animal, in those woods over the summer. I think that I finally determined that it is from a fox. I have not heard any howling in those woods, so I am guessing that it is unlikely that there are coyotes there. I hope I get some better photos of it tonight, foxes are some of my favorite animals.

big ol fox!Heard abobcat screeming the other night, something that is not real common around here.all the logging they are doing around here makes me think that the few that are around are getting pushed this way.

Fox fer sure....

Looks like a possum to me.

I got an opossum on it last last night, that was the only animal on my camera, the same opossum that is normally around. I don't have the photos of it that I got tonight, I forgot to import them and I put the card back on the camera so I guess I will have to wait until I get the card to import the photos.

Here's my favorite photo I got of the opossum that lives around here.

Hey grab some grapes! An old neighbor had one as a pet. That possum would do almost anything for a grape! Once they're used to getting grapes they are pretty friendly & you can get them to sit still & pose or stay in front of the camera longer. Wish I had some of his photos to post! Some were hilarious! The thing got to the point he'd lay on his back in my neighbors lap like a cat.
