An old farmer down here in Florida simply take a shovelful from one ant hill and puts it on the next. He says they wind up killing each other off.

If you sprinkle baking soda on the mound and then pour white vinegar on it, the ants bodies will disolve and they will die quickly. Take it from a Texan who knows fire ants!

Go for it, only on a good cold, cold day. The ants are deeper in the ground to stay warm...I read in order to kill fire ants wait for below freezing weather and dig up, this will expose the ants to the freezing temp and zap they're frozen. The ants are only active when the temps warm up to a certain temp something like 70. I did not save the article I read, but it was from LSU extension services (county agent).

You know that would probably work but with my luck, when that flame shot out of that can I would catch that dang field on fire, it would burn all the mans crops, the fire department would come, then Id go to jail for arson and lose the property

I have used instant grits to get rid of fire ants.Sprinkle a generous amount around the perimeter of the entrance to the nest and the workers will carry it to the queen.She in turn will eat it and the moisture in her body will cause her to swell up and explode.Of course most of the other ants will do the same.With the queen gone usually so is the nest.It may take a few days.Hope this will help.
