I haven't posted in a long time but today is a day to post!. Went to a great new place to do some recon and boy did it pay off!. I didn't record it got crap pictures but sorry I was having a holy crap attack. Thought I had popped out a 1/2 reale so that always nice. Then I clicked the dirt hat off it and just about passed out. 1794 flowing hair half dime baby! Oh yea. Yeah, but the melt value for that silver is only about 60 cents.

I kid, I kid, would have voted Banner, but by the time I viewed, it you already made it.
In like 10 seconds after posting.
Congrates on a Find of a Lifetime, my hands would still be shaking!

That is one of the holy grails of US detectorists. After 40 years of digging in one way or another, I still haven't found an 18th century US silver coin. Rubbing steel wool over it or any other kind of cleaning will take a couple thousand off the value, so don't.

A true find of a lifetime - a huge congrats ! :weee:

I was just joking about the steel wool. I'm still floating

A bucket list for sure. I have only seen one other posted in the forum since I dug mine back in 2011. Congratulation on a great find and welcome to the flowing hair club!

FYI, the 1794 Flowing Hair Half Dime was actually minted in 1795.

Here's mine:

Wow!!! I'd call that one a flabbergaster! absolutely incredible and looking good for a coin that old and rare! It also looks like you managed to not hit it with the shovel! I'd say the rare the coin the more likely it is to get hit. Part of murphys law of metal detecting!

Wow! And double-wow!

Congratulations.

Sensational. Congrats on the find and the well-deserved banner.

BEAUTIFUL FIND - way to go!!!

I would only get it slabbed to affirm it is genuine. You already know it is genuine, but if you wanted to sell it, a buyer would prefer it slabbed. It would likely come back as "cannot be graded due to environmental damage" - basically what happens to all dug coins. If I found it, I would keep it as-is, but if it went into an estate, would be easier to liquidate if slabbed. I assume that my dug coins are either genuine, or in the case of some coppers, contemporary counterfeits. Either way, I see no value to myself to affirm what I already know.

Excellent advice for an excellent find. Huge congrats!

I surely would have keeled over if I saw that beauty in the hole....Man O man......Congratulations on a once in a lifetime find!!!

Stupendous find recondigger and congrats on the banner! I think I have only seen 1, maybe 2 of these flowing half dimes on Tnet since I started in 2009. And maybe 1 or 2 flowing full dimes. I'm still trying to find a stinkin bust silver lol. Once again, congratulations on your killer 1794 flowing hair half dime banner find!

That is a beautiful coin I remember that being posted . I'm still pumped I went back to the spot and got a few round balls and a flat button so more to come from that spot.
