Hello folks! Hope you found some treasure today. I sure did! I was/am homeschooled (graduated today!!!) and was at my homeschool group soccer when I looked down randomly and found a squished piece of jewelry. I picked it up and it was all covered in white paint from them spraying the lines. But I saw a gold shine and saw that there was a marking of some sorts. I ran back to my bag and put it in so that I could continue playing the game. After getting home and scratching off the paint I started scratching my head instead. One of the markings looks like a hallmark, and the other three very faint numbers that I think are 535 or 585. I think 585 means 14k. However, why does the head of the ring look like silver? It looks like the gold is just on the edges of the square like it rubbed off or something... and the design on the side looks like silver that melts into gold. Could it be plated? I took it to Pandora and they didn't know what the markings were and they didn't have a metal tester. All that they told me is that the stone isnt a diamond. Also, my detector rings up gold with no trace of high tones at all. I'm super confused!!! Any suggestions or guesses???:icon_scratch:

Congrats on the beautiful Gold ring! :icon_thumleft: Congratulations on your Homeschooling and graduation!

And less than twenty days ago you were saying no gold yet...

Well now you will have to attach qualifiers to that statement. Good eye.

lol its crazy that my first gold wasn't found with my detector!!! it will be much more exciting to pull gold out of the ground then to just randomly find it. ill try the courts at my middle school in my block. last year i found a piece of broken silver earring or something there. thanks for commenting and the tip! by the way... do you mind telling me how you find old schools to hunt? id let to give them a go but i dont know how to find one.

This has to be a first, that detectorist finds a gold ring while playing a soccer match, too cool. Congrats on the Graduation & the ring save. HH

Congrats on your find and and graduation. I too was home schooled but I graduated quite some time ago. '90 or '91 I think. When you are in a graduating class of one, it isn't that memorable. I agree with the other posters that this may be white gold on the face. How did they determine that the stones were not real?

See! Now you have a bucket item for first gold with the detector and I have to add one for first gold by eyeball alone.

Regarding old schools, that is harder. Mostly just looking down from Google Earth and looking for schools that have mismatched additions or are maybe a little less tall and square. Maybe just noticing an old school while driving around with the family or going to the local library and looking at old maps or histories. You might get lucky and find an old torn down school that is now just park space if you cross reference between sources.

How did they determine that the stones were not real?

It’s Pandora. They are not jewellers and therefore don’t know squat would be my opinion...

Well they tested with their diamond tester and it was a nagitive. Ok thanks! Sounds like it's pretty hard to find a school.

I love being homeschooled because you can have a more personal party! They checked with a diamond tester.

I would not go to a pawn shop. I'd take it to a jeweler and ask how much to restore it. Then you'll get the real scoop.

I will address comments and questions and make a suggestion.I think it is a combination of white gold and yellow gold, as for old schools, just find the schools where the families have more money, better items will be lost there. The suggestion I have is have the ring repaired and get it monogrammed with a male family members initial then give it as a gift it will hold a lot of value to that family member. It can be re-sized by a jeweler. If they make it smaller ask them for the gold they remove.
