A corrective shoe is a 'Bar Shoe' which this is not. Also no evidence of nail holes.
This item appears to be cast iron and not hand wrought steel. The name is casted and not stamped. Note the rounded edges of the name. That is an indication that it is truly a cast iron object.
If it had sharp edges it would be stamped and therefore forged or wrought steel.
Therefore we know what it is not...the question is what it is.
Would it be possible if the item were turned with the "cleats" to the top it would slip into a slotted rail and slide along a track. This would make a place for something to be hooked into like in a factory or meat locker. Just guessin.
Duh, however it either had a turning motion for mounting - a la the rounded ends of the lower lugs, or something snapped over it usng the rounded ends as guides? This would make it a spacer, retainer, or support for something else in the assembly package.
