Its up to you to throw the sales pitch but honestly I believe it was faulty implementation that caused it to be so unsuccessful.
The brass tacks to me would be the fact that the state could make money with very little overhead.
A fee permit program seems it would be the answer to me... the fossil program is working just fine.
I don't know if it's happened yet.. But it seems inevitable that eventually it would be realized that the state hired archaeologists really need to have a good relationship with the citizens of the state in which they work and with the people who pay them.. For the benefit of all groups involved including future generations.

Thats exactly what i thought! Its crazy the way the state thinks! Whats the difference between a fossil and arrowhead? They are both rocks that are displayed in museums but only one can be collected? I mean COME ON!

I found this baby the other day while metal detecting on a private lot i recently got permission for! I couldnt believe when i was trying to find a piece of iron and this happened to be in the hole!!

Nice display Wells. On the bottom row, third point from the right, is that an Afton?

A few more and a cache of bifurcated points I found a few years back.

Incredible !!!! I will cherish the day when I find one like that !!!!!

I found it at a new house location, in a prime location. I stopped by as they were building the house, and checked the topsoil pile every week or so and was finding some nice flint and broken pieces.

there was also a sub-soil pile, and I noticed one day it was covered in bicycle and kids tracks, figured I'd look anyway, and there she was, raised up on her tail like a little tombstone.

I scooped it up, and held it in my hand with out looking......it felt as beautiful as it looked.

Great story and find

Some rhyolite for ya.They kinda pop under my curio lights. One of the more common material here as I've got plenty of pieces as well made from it.

20131123_083324.webp Here is a frame of Kirks from central Fl.

Really nice stuff. I love seeing how different they are in different parts of the country. Wish all of you would put the state that you live in.

This is one of my favorites, it is 5 1/4 inches of Hixton, from Wisconsin.
