Found this Mass button at an 1800's homesite today- can anyone give me some info on it- I can't seem to find a match for both the obverse and the reverse. Would greatly appreciate any assistance!

Thanks!

Possible Pre-Civil war Massachusetts State Militia button. 1820s to 1840s. 1 piece raised design gilded brass. Many of this particular variety made at this particular time period were still manufactured in Britain and are labeled as such (for example, rich quality/london on the backside as opposed to yours which is Standard treble gilt with possibly the word "rich" still currently obscured). This may indicate an American made variant of this type. If you have an Albert's book handy or even not check the interwebs for Alberts MS27 and you'll find a similar example of yours (lined background, pebbeled shield with indian, north star (to the left of the bow if you are looking at it straight on) albeit with different backstampings but like I said, probably just a variant of the MS27.

Very nice button, you don't see those often. That backmark may be a new discovery for that face.

That's an awesome button...I'm from mass and would love to dig one of those...looks like a lot of gilt still on that one too...I recently dug a Virginia that had a lot of gilt...Congrats on a sweet find.

Sweet button there Jeff, congrats!

That is such a Cool button. I know there are a lot of Pre CW and CW buttons found and posted but fewer with States Names on them. I just found my first one, currently posted. It's from Maryland and I found it in SW Ohio go figure. Big Congrats on saving such a cool piece of History!

Yeap with careful lemon juice cleaning, that one will come up real good.

Agree... It's loaded with gilt. Would look great. Looks like just a few minutes to clean as most of what's on there seems to be dirt.

Treble Gilt, that's me baby yeah! She had gold all over her at one time. Sorry can't read the rest, two piece puts it in the 1800's I'd think, my button ID ing sucks, lol
Nice find brother.

My buddy just found one of these too, and he is also a Jeff In Massachusetts, and he has an Explorer too really weird. Anyways, nice find.
