Wow, another fantastic day with Rick NS on the fields that don't stop giving. We struggled a little at first today not getting much at all but then we shifted into high gear. Rick got his 150th & 151st copper for the year. I got some more musket balls and an Enfield bullet. then we moved over to a field we pounded earlier this season. Our plan was to only spend an hour at this site and then go hit an old Baseball field that is sure to turn up some silver but we started to get into the old stuff which we both love so we spent the rest of the day at the early site.
Picked up 6 coppers, in can clearly see the date on one, "1775" and more detail on some of the others. I should be able to nail them down when I have more time.
But the best find for me was a Royal Navy's Captain/Commander's button (circa 1770's) with a good bit of the gold gilding left on it. I think that Rick found his Dress Uniform button as well.
Rick scored some Spanish silver as well.
Boy, what a day. It just doesn't get much better then this.:icon_thumright:

That is a nice Navy Button. Very nice.

That is an awesome looking button indeed! Great finds. Great hunt!

Wow! You guys are tearing it up! I found the same button a few years back but with mush less gilt! Great finds!

BTW...I got my back up machine up and running...got to test her out this weekend!

Very cool finds!

I would love to find a military button - period. Would be even better to find a Navy button!

So sweet!

Nothing better than an old colonial site full of coins, but a nice old colonial site full of coins AND nice old military buttons!

Now that rocks..... good stuff all, but that button is a chin dropper. :hello2:

Congrats on a great day Dave. You're definitely on a roll with the coppers, and that button is really nice. I didn't realize it would be that old as I thought that style on US buttons was more of the early 1800s variety. But what do I know??

Yup, nothing better than getting a "My best button find yet"...I remember those days and it leave you with a big smile on your face for a few days... Congrats on a great hunt...

Well done.

Congrats on a great find,

Buck

Thanks Bill, we have been having a blast. This button is a RN Captains button according to the 2 references I have found, one says it is 1787-1812 and the other says 1795-1812 after 1812 they had crowns on them. Sure looks nice either way.

Yep, it's 1790s/1812. I've found a few but thinking about it now, it's been many years since the last.

BTW... A quick lemon juice soak with a little brushing and it will look much better.
