Ok, just got back in from the field. I had exactly 90 minutes this afternoon to detect while Little Romeo-1 had his afternoon nap. I couldn't go far so I hit the site right beside my house. I've hunted this site for years and it always seems to produce. This is the site where Iron Horse and I spent a day and where I found the cut Spanish 2 reale. I told my wife that I would be home as soon as I found "old silver" or 4:30...whatever came first. Well, I was home at 4:00! I was roaming around the field with only a French sized musketball and a harness buckle to show for when I decided to crank up the discrimination. I just cranked it as hot as it would go without driving me insane and this was the target I hit.

I hate posting before I know exactly what I've found but it is a 1722 French Sol silver! I'm not sure of the exact denomination but it is much larger than the previous French silvers I've found. I'm sure IronPatch can tell me...bigger than a US quarter.

Without a doubt my find of the year!

Considering early American makes it, as does Spanish, it's well deserving because you probably won't see a better French Colonial silver coin posted. 1/3 ECU I'm guessing was a heck of a lot to lose during the 1720s, 1730s or 40s.

Incredible find, that would definitely make my day.

Killer old French silver! Glad you made it up top again!

Super find! Bet that got the heart beaten a tad faster seeing that beautiful coin!! :icon_thumright:

WTG, romeo-1, on your well-deserved banner find! Sorry I didn't see this earlier.

1722. Not apt to find any coin older than that anywhere in the US.

Bet you'll remember that new setting!

Way to go Romeo! Fantastique! It's almost time for this guy to hop on the ferry! :help: :coffee2: :laughing7:

I think I'd pass out if I dug up one of them.

Come on over...I'll even pick you up! I know we tried a cross bay detecting mission this past spring but schedules didn't cooperate...fall is the best time anyway!

Great find. What detector are you using?

Thanks! Using a Fisher F-75.

What kind of value does a coin like that fetch. I bought my detector a few years back and haven't used it. I try to go bottle digging but in Arizona the ground is so hard, it's like digging through cement! Cool coin, no doubt :icon_pirat:

So fine and a wonderful piece. I can't imagine finding a piece that old. :hello2:
I am at a loss, my head would be spinning, and you could take me to the hospital. :headbang:
