My gold cube is arriving today everyone!!!! Wish me luck using it.

Alex look in your mama's kitchen cabinets, I'll bet you can find some classifiers.Good luck with the Gold Cube. Wes

Could a noodle strainer be used for a classifier???

Thanks for the confirmation socalocmatt!!!

I don't agree with the comments on the cube. Classify your material straight away. Put the stuff under 1/8 thru the cube and the larger stuff (maybe up to 1/2 inch) thru your sluice or just pan it depending on volume of material. The cube is much faster than a sluice for that finer material and more efficient too :-)

I stand corrected Alex. Kevin here knows more about the cube than I. I have only seen it demonstrated by the inventer but I believe Kevin knows him personally. As far as the cube goes Kevin is the man for info on it. Thanks Kevin for helping this young fellow out.

Hello Alex. Welcome to the Net. Your profile shows that you have been here only a very short time. It is probably not a good idea to use your real name, Mr Falko, when posting on this net or anywhere else on the internet, youngman. I can take you to find gold. I pass through Barstow about every month when I go to AZ from CA. We would have to plan it. There are a few rules I would expect from you. One: you must bring someone you know and trust at least 18 years old. Two: I need to meet both mom and dad before we make a trip so that I know both are ok with it. Three: it will only be a day trip... early morning to afternoon. There are good places about two hours from where you live. I cannot gaurantee you will find more than the gold you already found, but we can try. If these rules are ok with you, PM me so I can give you my phone number and discuss how to plan this. The planning is sometimes more fun than finding gold. No, finding gold is the most fun! Left-click on my name (TerryC) to see how to send a PM (personal message). If you are not comfortable with going, I will understand.... No Skipping School! Terry

Good day Alex,

Good for you getting out an doing some prospecting. It is a very enjoyable hobby, just don't get discouraged if you have some days when you don't find much. I fully believe in getting the younger generation into prospecting as it is a great hobby, gets folks outside, and lord knows you can be doing MUCH worse things! Some days you definitely spend more on gas money and don't find much, but that's how it goes when you're prospecting. Tell your mom it's not so much about making money doing this, it's more about family time and making memories, if you find gold it's just a bonus! Any prospector will tell you there are good days and bad days. The best thing you can do is learn to pan and practice a lot. Maybe even go out and even get some buckets of dirt and take them home. Then as you have time you can practice your panning skills at home and not have to drive 2 or 3 hours just to go panning. Panning is the most basic prospecting skill, yet is also the most important. You can get a cheap kiddie pool to practice in or Home Depot or Lowes sells concrete mixing tubs that work great for tubs and aren't overly huge. I've seen many people throw thousands of dollars down for equipment and never really learn the basics of how to properly pan for gold. Like was mentioned above get a good gold pan and some good classifiers as these are the basic tools needed to be successful. If you're bringing buckets home, classifying them will allow you to bring home more pannable (is that a word???) dirt and less rocks and classifying before you pan makes it easier to learn and you'll lose less gold. If you have any questions feel free to hit up the forums or even email me at anytime. I'm always willing to help out with anything you may need.

Tell your dad thanks for his service to our great country and also a BIG thanks to all the folks offering to take Alex out and help him learn. We need to all help keep him interested in this hobby and I for one will help him anyway I can.

Let us know if you need anything and stay safe out there,
Chris

...don't worry too much about the bottom end being out of the water. Nice if you can but ok either way...good luck out there!

Prospector Alex, I like your Avatar, must be a good friend! Please give my thanks to your father and your mother for loving all of you and raising you with love and goodness!

The gold cube is a fine gold catching unit and where you are it should be of help with your clean ups.

I'm in NorCal and do my prospecting on heavy duty backpacking trips, usually two weeks at a time and being in the Mother Lode area makes these trips special. So many things to look at, search out, explore and awesome waterfalls and of course swimming and fishing right next to our camp('s). There's more gold up here, as far as I know, so my detecting/panning/sluicing has more chance of finding the yellow metal. Even if all you find is small it is still gold and needs to be saved up till it weighs a couple of ounces and then selling it, if you want to that is, will buy some very good equipment. I have three children and as each of them turned 4 years of age I started taking them with me each year, one at a time. All of them love the canyon area and the experience of leaving their homes and going into this wilderness area with no cars, homes, stores or anything modern as it is just like in the old days of mining, you and Ma Nature.

0008.webp This is the view from the top of the canyon I go into

180_8044.webp This waterfall is in one of the side canyons off of the main canyon and down in the bottom of the canyon

180_8056.webp On the right side of this picture in the background is a 500' waterfall. It is in some very rugged and remote country back up the canyon wall and feeds the waterfall in the first waterfall picture.

180_8078.webp This pool in another stream that also feeds the first waterfall picture but it is way off to the right side of the 500' waterfall. And of course it is "down there" and one needs to rope over the cliff to get to it.

182_8222.webp Here is some gold I found along the main river along with 3 small black magnetic rocks, some lead from bullets, another larger magnetic rock and a dime for size.

182_8290.webp Me in one of my camps with the river 30' out in front of the camp

183_8326.webp Night time campfire, always a good way to end to a long day

Happy Hunting Alex.................63bkpkr
