anybody know of any old florida maps. im after an old map of lettuce lake and its surroundings. around the time of jose gasper. and an old Spaniard named Juan Gonzalez.

ok i know the time now around 1820. would there even be maps still around from then or at least pictures of them.

Did you decipher the x's and o's? .SWR is right about Gaspirilla and I don't agree with him much.You'd be better off looking for the buried cache's of cattleman Readding Parker.One of them is supposed to be buried in the n.w. corner of lake Marion which is soon to be ,if not already developed.Be careful though,his spirit is supposed to be guarding it and the area is haunted.

Gasparilla left 10 of his most trusted men with the treasure chests while he took the rest of the crew in pursuit of the merchant ship. The ten men witnessed the battle with the USS Enterprise from shore. Seeing the Floridablanca go down, then loaded the chests into a longboat and slipped, unnoticed, up the Peace River to a place called Spanish Homestead. Spanish Homestead was owned by Lady Boggess. The pirates bribed Lady Boggess with a small part of the treasure, ensuring that she would not divulge their location if the Americans pursued them to the area.
The ten pirates spent the next day burying the remainder of the chests in different spots along the streams and swamps of Peace River. They then burned their longboat and disappeared forever, apparently never to return.
Near Spanish Homestead, $300,000 in gold coins was found years later – this may have been part of Lady Boggess’ hush-money.

the way i would go about it would be question all the peramiters of the story

what
when
y
how
where
questions lead to many more then when most if not all are answered then 8)
find out were and how old the gold was that was found then back track to these guys see if its possible

hmm interesting indeed, i might reasearch into john gomez and the founders of the city as well as the find of 300,000 gold coins.

Lettuce Lake, is South of Arcadia, off the Peace river. If you go to Arcadia which is 45 miles East of Sarasota on SR 70, then go South to Lettuce Lake.

Jose Gaspar was real. The load of treasure did leave. Some of the treasure still remains lost and is waiting to be found. I actually have found one of the places where some of it still is. All of this information has been verified through extensive personal research.
