PERUVIAN...GOLD...ROLLING PAPER...CAPED CRUSADER!
Greetings fellow TreaserNetters! I hope you are all well and having a good year so far. I dare say that I’ve not had a record year so far, but then I’ve not had much opportunity to get out and hunt either. We’ve all heard about the weather, be it in the form of snow and ice, seemingly never ending rain, or in some cases DROUGHT... or severe weather like the outbreak of tornadoes of late. The weather can keep any of us from our hobbies I suppose, but there are other things too, like work, and prior commitments and ... work. *sigh* It’s awful when you get the itch and you just can’t scratch it! I’ve been JONESING MAN! I HAD TO GET IN SOME SWING TIME OR I WAS GOING TO LOSE MY MIND... or what little is left of it anyway. These past two weeks , offered up two separate opportunities that I jumped on! Two separate adventures, two separate places, Finally a long awaited much anticipated scratching of the itch! It was WONDERFUL!
Both trips offered up surprises and were rewarding financially. Oh there were coins to be found! Lots of coins! Mostly all just clad, but I don’t mind that, it all adds up handsomely... eventually. There was the usual scrap and trash to be found at both locations, nothing unusual there I suppose. Buttons, Pull tabs, zipper pulls, snaps and other various scraps of metal...

Oh... and I was visited by a well known if somewhat restricted Caped Crusader...

Yes the cape is very impressive and arms and cape snap UP as if to frighten away... well... someone.
On both excursions I dug up unusual coins as well as clad. That would be foreign coins... PERUVIAN coins really stood out for me... two Ten Centimos Pieces and a couple of Canadian pennies on the second hunt...

I found a couple of Canadian coins on the second hunt as well, one being a rather dated penny... even older than the two Wheaties I found on the first day...

There are other coins as well... not legal tender mind you, but a blast to uncover all the same. Tokens are wonderful finds in my book, and I found some on both outings.

I found keys on both days too, one in the woodchips at a park, and the other in the grass around a ball field at the other park.

Bling? Yeah... I found bling... if this qualifies...

Not sure if that is a decorative zipper pull, the end off a hoodie draw string, perhaps some sort of shoe bling? I don’t have a clue. I do know that it’s not gold or silver or anything like that. Oh well, if that doesn’t qualify, this next find DOES!

It’s small, but it’s heavy and it has all its sets (stones) in place. It’s stamped or engraved on the inside of the band but it’s confusing... have a look...

I can make out the “14K” and the word “ART” and then the word “GOLD” but there’s something between them that I can’t make out, even with my loupe. Anyone out there have any ideas? I DO know that when I pulled that little chunk out of the ground I promptly sat back on my heels and took a moment. My heart was racing, I started to giggle and grin like a mischevious maniac. I took a snapshot of it in the palm of my hand with my cell phone and sent it to my wife even before putting it in my finds bag. Day 1 adventure was quite productive, on all levels! Especially for taking care if only partially of that “Itch”. Boy did I ever Need that! Day 2, the next week (this past week in fact) was productive in many ways as well. Oh sure, the clad wasn’t quite as numerous, but I was having a ball finding whatever I found anyway. Especially when you happen upon an unusual find... even without the detector! There I was, just sweeping back and forth looking for my next good signal when I caught movement out of the corner of my eye... something moving through the grass. Now this time of year it’s not unusual to see a baby rabbit, or a bird in molt, or <shudder> the occasional <whispered> SNAKE. So I will turn my head and track stray movement to identify its source. Fortunately for me, this time, the movement was not related to any animal, avian, mammalian or even reptilian... instead, it was rolling paper. ROLLING PAPER, yes, you read that correctly. No No No No... it’s not the kind one might use to roll up an old fashioned loose leaf tobacco cigarette... <ahem> or anything slightly more nefarious. No, this rolling paper turned out to be ... well....

.... more of a “legal tender” sort of paper. A Five Spot man! WoW! That one passing breeze and stray movement catching my eye doubled my net finds for the day. COOL! And it was the LAST thing I found that second trip out. I probably could have detected a bit longer, but life was calling and I had to get back into responsibility mode, besides I was happy with what I had found that day. All those pennies and other coins add up... AND HOW!

Not a bad haul for a couple of trips out to scratch the itch. Made a nice addition to the Vacation fund that is about to be tapped in a couple of weeks. Just a few dollars shy of paying for the hotel cost for our upcoming beach getaway. <smile> Maybe, If I’m very lucky and the weather cooperates... I might make up the difference in another outing or two between now and then. I can hope anyway. And Hope I do, that you all get out and get to enjoy this hobby, scratch your itch or get your Jones’ on... and soon. Remember though... Look out for the Rolling Papers! <grin> And as always...
