Found this today. It is very odd and looks like it could be platinum. Any thoughts?

What did did your MD say? And also, 99% of us would have that at home by now -hook or crook - even if it turns out to be an "odd conversation piece". I know you are new to that area, but Jeesshh!

OK so I mentioned I thought it was Nickle maybe might not be...Here it is I've had this specimin since i was like 15 or 16. I found it in a creek outside of Corona in Southern Ca.It was down in the creekbed i didnt dig out out of the bank it was just with the gravels. Two creeks came together there and both of they're canyons had mines. there are silver mines nearby its in the Santa Ana Mts. Silverado area is 15 miles as the crow flies.I found out later that one of the largest Tin ( had said Nickle because I was remembering wrong I looked up the newspaper article)deposits in the country was east of there near Lake Matthews. The mines we found in the hills had groundwater running down the walls in places and a cool metallic varnish formed where the water ran..very shiney and silver similar to the specimin. It weighs fourteen ounces and is around 2.5"x2.25". I have never taken it to anyone and asked and am not sure what it is Maybe tin I dont know. I know it isn't platinum and I don't think its Silver. There is a weird nodule and the white spots you see are greenish and have always been there. It is very hard and does not have anything to flake or chip off really. Its a non ferrous screamer on My Goldmaster and can be picked up at 2 feet in an air test.Just wanted to share cause the find in question and the specimin i have look very similar.

Hate to be the spoiler here ... but my bet is on a painted rock. Look more closely at the picture magnified ... you guys still think it's metal?

Sorry man but I know for sure it is not a painted rock...whatever it is it was born that way!It is also fairly obvious in The first post of the thread that the object in question is part of something else.

And it gives off a HELLO IM A CHUNK OF METAL signal on my detector....I dont know what the original poster got I will reread.

I was referring to the O.P.'s picture not yours. Sorry if you thought I meant that your rock was painted.
