I found this in the water. It is a small adze and thought the brown V on it was pretty cool and figured they must have thought so as well.

100_4312.JPG

After I got it home and it had dried out it looked like this. The V was gone. It only shows up after is it soaked awhile and stays for about an hour or so then disappears . Strange.

My uncle had a Tomahawk/grooved axe that would turn a burgundy color on its bit while wet. We always thought that to be blood stain seeping up from the bit. I displayed that piece at my elementary school, as a kid and a teacher stole it.

It is a strange piece. Layer yes different no. I have an insitu of it under water on here somewhere. It is as if they knew to knapp that ledge as they are distinct work marks. The bottom has a small worked area on the bit. I think it is the porous_ness of the stone for sure but when dry it is normal looking. It is just that section of the stone that turns brown when under water not the whole thing. It was a water culture so they probably knew it and would maybe trade it then laugh when it dried out and the V mark went away. :dontknow:

Here's an odd one..
I found this in close association with trade beads, triangle points and Early Spanish artifacts.
It has a suspension loop on the top that is now broken so I guess it was a pendant... its lead??
I've had people tell me it looks like kokopeli.
I did see that examples of a kokopeli in the eastern states had more of an insect like appearance.

This was found in South Carolina and I have wondered for years what this was actually used for. Found in an area with other artifacts that day. Hope for some of your thoughts.

This KRF piece is 4 inches long. Has a stinger like graver on one end, scraper and spokeshave also adorn this piece I believe on the other end. I just don't know if it isn't maybe supposed an effigy of some sort either. DSCN3334.JPG DSCN3336.JPG DSCN3333.JPG DSCN3335.JPG

Over shot flake correct? My largest over shot flake is 2.5 inches long and 1.5 wide at the largest section. I believe mine might be a point preform. Ill show you it. Found with the other 2 points made from the same type of rock.

I always wanted a tomahawk. So I went out and just found a stone that looked desirable. It looks like Mother Nature created it for my purpose. I sanded down a stick and grooved it out perfect for the rock to slide in to. Just need some leather strap to fasten to it and wrap some around the handle and tie it off. Dang, redneck ingenuity there! Rusty you need to delete messages from your inbox, it won't let you get any more.
