I have gone as high as I could on my own, We've brought in legal asstistance now. I was belittled for retaining an attorney by the investigator.

Your "investigator" would have gotten an earful of belittling from me for not having locked a dangerous felon up immediately. You have to assume he's still armed and highly dangerous. The investigator is right. You shouldn't HAVE to do such things, and only did so because his agency was giving the appearance of incompetence. I'd tell him the next call will be to a private investigator if he doesn't get off the stick and earn his keep. Better a "rent -a-cop" than none at all.

Dang!!! Mower has an issue... Can't mow anyway! Hubby is throwing a fit, and won't let me rockhound either!... Don't ya just hate when your spouse uses fear of a shooter to keep ya from prospecting GRRRR. I'm sure that happens all the time... LOL... I'll just have to read about other's adventures here on the forums for now--- That'll probably make me want to get out more... Being couped up stinks.

Here in Mexico, in 1993, an old man sold most of his property to my BIL, and at a cheap price because he was broke.

When we got it, the survivors on the small plot of land he did not sell seemed to resent our presence also. I went down to the property line to cut weeds, and the son of the current owner started tossing firecrackers at the fence line. I kept cutting weeds.

Later, a neighbor reported the man who tossed the firecrackers said I seemed to be afraid, and did not understand why a former soldier would be afraid.

The knucklehead apparently cannot tell the difference between being afraid and being livid with anger. There was no fear on my part, but I did want to put those firecrackers where the sun does not shine.

We had more problems, and I tried to be diplomatic and courteous. Finally, one day they over-did it even for them. I threw a major tantrum. I spoke, nay, screamed and shouted, of police and judges and attorneys and prisons and lots more goodies. Since then we have been bosom buddies. I just had to speak a language they understood.

Now, they still fight with all the other neighbors but are lovey-dovey with me.

Prayers for your protection and wisdom for non-corrupt law enforcement to quickly gather as much evidence as possible.

One thought I had is that this alleged shooter has to be brimming with "I'm untouchable" pride because he has a seeming alleged connection with the investigators. That type of pride will be his undoing and should be capitalized on by your lawyer and trustworthy investigators.

I used to work in the Emergency Room of a Level I Trauma Center and many a drunk came in for blood testing and claimed to know so-and-so and was going to "have everybody's job... blah, blah, blah" This alleged shooter should already have been questioned and a baseline story formed for the investigators to either confirm or poke holes in. Since they have no statement from the alleged perp they have nothing to prove or disprove concerning his alleged involvment [because he was never questioned. As he should have been]. Good [and simple] investigation techniques can be viewed on Cold Justice episodes. :Piecing together evidence that is admissible in court.

You might also consider contacting the ATF or even the FBI.

I havent commented as I had no better advice than has been given.I post now to tell you that your family is in my family's prayors.I would lose no sleep over ending the threat for you but alas I'm on the west coast(not all of us are hippie woosies)

Hubby had to go to the ER... because his foot is swelling up below the gunshot wound (Dr. said to watch out for that because it could be something called compartment syndrome) .... They gave him additional meds.

A deputy is trying to locate Steve's Driver's License which was misplaced the night of the shooting.

Our Attorney is still trying to get LE to do what their job; I don't imagine we'll know much about that till sometime next week. In the meantime a cousin of the shooter stopped at our house to borrow the phone (it's country out here, and her cell wouldn't work) She stopped for help here because she said she won't go to her cousin's places (i.e. Thugs, etc), said she knows they're not good people, and the relative she was trying to visit wasn't in (she said she was visiting a sweet little lady two houses up who just had surgery, who is also an aunt to the Thug)... Steve was hesitant to let her use the phone, but she needed help, so we did.

I've got to find a mower... Looking on craigslist. We have two more mowers, but they're at our house in TN (7 hours each way drive to one pick-up), Hopefully I can find a cheap push mower to work with until we get the shot-up one fixed... Ugh, Thug tries to kill your husband, and now I have to find, and deal with a push mower. And Local LE hasn't even taken him in at all! This is so strange... I can't safely mow anyway, so maybe it's good that it can't be used right now. Hopefully, if the oath keepers come to gaurd while I mow, I'll have a dang mower...

Yep, you could say I'm a bit frustrated, But I know God is Good, and this too will pass.

I would never trust a kin of a person that did such things to your husband. Blood is thicker than water they say and it's something that one should remember when dealing with anyone in the area.
I let a young lady pass by the tractor this past winter, turned out that it was a set up and the local yokels payed me a visit later for chasing her down the road with the tractor. It all turn south after that and many statements were taken and it was a stalemate where nothing become of the crap. Two months later the same girl started screaming from our dock area like she was getting raped or assaulted they were trying to lure me in again, the man to the rescue type thing. 5/6 guys were waiting down at the end of the road, but my 5' wife answered the call and asked the guy if he was beating on her. They tried and failed but it did get the LE to write them a letter stating the facts that their false endeavours would not shine lightly in front of the JP. So things have been quiet for a few months, but it's like having a black cloud on the horizon and wondering if it's going piss down on ya once again, the threat is always there it seems. Put it this way between two families the costs for police went up in the township because of all the calls to their shacks and they all still walk. So once again think about it once again before you let a kin inside your home, as you might be away and the trust level might be up a rung and the husband might open that door and the finger could be pointed as he tried to you know what, and the local LE would put his ass in the blink of a hearts beat. It's just the way I look at things like this if there's a remote chance they can trump up a charge on you they'll do it.

This is an interesting thing for sure. I do not know the players or facts outside of having read this forum site on occasion.

The sheriff of that county has a web site with contact information. I see no harm in friends of the OP making an inquiry of concern. The more the better. If the Sheriff gets the idea that the world is watching he might stand up.

I wouldn't recommend going on about taking action, or planning to go about armed, but you could ask if the situation was safe and under control. You have been invited to recreate at the OP's place but are worried because of what has been going on and the seeming lack of action about it, and of course you are worried for the OP.

Giving him advance notice that you are looking for his protection puts him in the hot seat, which he apparently has earned based on what we have here so far in this thread. If he suggests that you stay away, that would be a HUGE red flag about his allegiances.

Don't like to talk in person? Send him an email. Put "Shooting of ______________- (op's husband name) in the subject line. If he doesn't respond resend it the next day, then every 6 hours, then every hour. When his inbox starts filling up with these from all sorts of peeps he will understand the world does not begin and end at his county line.

Getting him in writing will be a good thing. No intent to go against or after him, but he needs to do his job and provide equal justice/protection under the laws. I can't imagine this around here - some one shoots a guy on his mower and the cops look away. If you even threatened to do that here you would be in the clink until the judge met you and decided your bail, no matter who your attorney is.

I'd post the link to his website and his number and email but I am not sure TN would allow it. If the Mods will allow it - SAY SO.

Is it OK to share the perp's ID? I'd like to have look at his record.

(Morris Horton Morgan -- AKA Horton Morgan) is the name of the THUG that threatened my life, then intentionally almost ran over my daughter, and I. That wasn't enough so they had to go and shoot an old man on a mower (What kind of monster does this stuff - Look at his record and you'll see). His record is very lengthy, I don't know about other areas, but just the records in this county (not counting State/Fed or other county charges) are very numerous, and span his adult life...

Absolutely We own it... Bought, and paid for... Lock, stock & barrel... The Thug's late aunt used to own it. She past away a few years ago, I've learned that he (Thug) was squatting on our property out back, after his aunt died, but was evicted by the bank that owned it at the time, when they found out. I have spoke with the son/executor of her estate too. He seemed like a decent guy, and said he let the bank take it back because of a con-man family member that was giving him grief... (that was before these incidents). The rightful heir chose not to keep it, so it was forclosed, and I bought it a couple of years later.... There is no doubt who owns it.... We just have some psyco Thug who's trying to kill us off...

Don't know that I'd call this a property dispute... but it's definately a nightmare

It looks as if there is an outstanding warrant on him. Looks like he owes $ yet and has a second warrant perhaps for probation violation. You might want to point that out to the sheriff. So many of his old cases were dismissed, and his light sentence history is amazing i.e. 10 years stayed to time served - less than a month from arrest to guilty plea and free to go ! Seems to always carry a handgun illegally.

The cops might know this guy won't come in easy and not want to get into it with him. If you guys push on him there will be a shootout.

He got let off more times than 99.999% of the people ever get arrested.

I think he has no where else to go. This is what he knows.

All those issues spanning years and years, yet little reprimand has been done in that county to set him straight.

In my opinion there is a much bigger problem here than just that psychotic lunatic. But if you can somehow get him removed, then the rest is a non-issue.

In his head, he honestly believes that the property belongs to him and that he is the rightful owner. In my book, that means he has mental issues and needs psychiatric counseling. His rap sheet further backs up my claim that the is not right in the head. Obvious brain damage.

Where did you find the outstanding warrant? If he already has an outstanding warrant and LE has done these things there is a huge problem, bigger than I can imagine here in the Sheriff's office. The uniformed officers who came first went back in full tactical gear, the investigtor chose to do nothing.
