Welcome aboard....it depends on the type of coin involved. In the case of copper coins quite often hydrogen peroxide is used. For silver coins lemon juice does a good job. Keep in mind this is just generic advice if the coins have any real collector value they should be left as is or cleaned by a professional.

Thank you for the info. I guess I mean when you see its a coin and have no clue if its new vs old and want to get a visual, do you just rub or apply water only ect.?
