Quite a few people carry around one of those spray bottles with water in it. Just spray water on the coin and don't rub if you just want a quick idea of denomination, date, etc...rubbing risks scratching the coin if there's still dirt and grit on it.

Thank you for the info. I guess I mean when you see its a coin and have no clue if its new vs old and want to get a visual, do you just rub or apply water only ect.?

I wish I could post our recent mag data and maps.....but this is not an amateur treasure hunt, and I'm bound by non disclosure. Sooo....let's just say this is the most exciting hunt I've ever been involved in concerning Spanish treasure !! From what I understand it's getting real close to getting in the water and picking up a trail. I think by the end of summer we'll be into dive ops !! They have been running 2 mag boats for months now so theres alot to look at.
