Well I'm based in Canada, however, I pretty much only do land detecting. When I was at the Radioworld hunt in Toronto I had a chat with a couple of the top waters hunters around. They have great success because they don't leave much behind trash or otherwise.

I'd probably just knock out small iron and dig everything else for best results.

So tell small iron to buggar off then and dig everything else, got it! I figured I was gonna encounter a decent amount of trash since well, y'know.... beaches and such. I'm gonna make sure that what ever trash I come across is properly picked up and disposed of. Thanks for the tip fellah!

My family and friends have finally broken me and I joined that very popular social media site. I hate it!

On our way to the big apple. Got my part this morn. Installed it tested it and out the inlet we went. Metal detected with a cape may native and made a new friend. We didnot get much besides clad, but they showed me where to find the cape may diamonds and I found a whole bunch. They are really nothing more than worn pebbles of gem quality quartz. They are facet quality but are worth only 10-12 dollars when cut. Went in search of bottle dumps, but had little success. The obvious spots are well picked here as bottling is a big pastime in these parts. Did find some other eyeball finds in the process. Ill post pics when I hit the dock. One thing I picked up was a large piece of slag glass thats pretty cool. It looks like the supposed diamonds that caleb is posting. Guess ill have to post it up on his thread. There is a certain club in cape may that I will not mention on this site that metal detects these beaches. They will do anything to get you off there turf. They called the cops on me twice at 2 seperate beaches. Both times I was harassed but allowed to continue. I asked the cop who called on me and he pointed to another metal detetorist and said they had called on me earlier. I waited for the very nice officer to leave before I got up in his s..t !! I got close enough to foul this idiots pulse induction machine for 30 minutes. He cussed me and shouted at me, I finally told him bring it bi..h and ill wrap this shaft around your noggin !! These guys think they own the place and will try anything to get you off there turf if your not part of there club. The cop told me if they got another call from these guys he would tell them to back off, said he didn't have time for this bull. Glad I left or there would have been a confrontation today im sure. They are probably out in numbers looking for me today. Haaa haaa ha !! It was like the ms-13 of metal detecting gangs. They even where colors and have there decals on there vehicle's !! My new friend said they often harass him as he is not part of there club. Oh well ill try them again in november. Lol !!

The Arrogance of Authority

The DEA officer stopped at a ranch in Texas, and talked with

an old rancher. He told the rancher, "I need to inspect your
ranch for illegally grown drugs."



The rancher said, "Okay, but don't go in that field over
there.....", as he pointed out a distant location.


The DEA officer verbally exploded, saying, " Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me!"

being chased by the rancher's enormous Santa Gertrudis bull......

With every step the bull was gaining ground on the officer, and it seemed likely that the officer would be

gruesomely gored before he reached safety. The man was clearly terrified.




The rancher threw down his tools, ran to the fence and yelled at the top of his lungs.....

You had mentioned you were fairly new at detecting so maybe I should elaborate on the why of digging pretty much everything.

A couple of terms that you may or may not be aware of masking and nulling. Some people don't want to dig a big whack of junk so they only cherry pick say the top 1/3 of the targets if they're using a machine with a screen and discrimination.

That's where the masking or nulling out comes into play in simple terms the more of the lower or mid range targets you knock out if any of those high conductivity targets are near a lower conductivity target the machine probably won't pick it up since the descrimination is cancelling out the good target next to the lower conductivity item.

Also most of your gold is going to show up in the pulltab or midrange and some chains or small gold will even ring up as foil.
Insofar as the large iron is concerned some of those targets near a lake could be old anchors, cannonballs and other neat relics.
The small iron is going to be rusted bobby pins, wire, small nails, etc...

Hope this clarifies things for you a bit.

No idea, been having issues only on this website since I have been back up in Germany. I would normally say that is due to all the flooding, but its only this site I am having issues with.

Who knows, it comes and goes, right now all is fine. But I am sure it will go to crap soon enough.

Cant hunt anywhere near the light house. State park. Did hunt on that side at sunset beach. Until my confrontation !! Massive amount of area to cover, and everything gets covered with replenishment sand. If thats not enough, the beach grooming machine runs every morning. The so called detecting club hits the beach from 4 am till the machine comes out on the beach. My new friend filled me in on why I couldnt find anything. Cleanest beach ive ever detected !! Way better off with permissions in this town as everything is old. 1920s houses are viewed as new and not desirable to hunt for these guys up here. Id be all over it !! Kidds treasure will be safe for a long time if its on cape may point. The state park makes it off limits !! I was lucky to get out with a plated fresh dropped ring.
