RTR......we fished in the rondout creek. We got a handful of catfish, an eel, and the small mouth. Im here waiting for the sleepy heads to get up and then were off to albany. Ill fly out on Saturday to orlando and meet my sister. We will drive to vero for a week of treasure hunting and vacation time with my family !! Ill hook up with some t-netters there too. Ill hook up with phipsfolly mike, and schpillups steve, both t-netters that used to live in the keys, but now live in the vero/ft pierce area. Ill detect all the 1715 spots with steve and try the emerald sifting with mike. If I play my cards right I may get out with the MRR salvage team and blow some holes on the colored beach wreck or corrigans wreck. Working with the likes of dan porter, john brandon, and levin shaver would be quite the honor !!! We'll see.......im not gonna hold my breath on that as they are pretty busy right now. I will try hard to get out with them though !! When I was 15 my friend and I found a flint lock rifle in the sand dune along with bottle shards that read "London 1715" I think this could be the henry jennings raiding parties landing spot. So ill explore this spot again too. Wooo hoooo!!! Exciting stuff, im fired up. !!

Bart, I didn´t talked about the restoration. Corey does a great job on all kind of artifacts!! But all the rest is **** and just money making.

I say it again, destroying artifacts just to make money out of it IS criminal and every archeologist or even serious collector etc. with a straight minds will agree.

Gosh,,, I swear if a millionaire would say to them, that he offers 1 million just for the cut emerald in their 680.000 $ ring, they simply would destroy it and take the emerald out of the ring.
Or if the same guy would offer 5 millions if they cast fake escudos out of the gold chalice for him, to give them as a gift to business partners, the chalice would be gone also!

First off, I don't know this Mel Fisher or what he/they have to do with anything, but I basically agree with what you're saying. It's sad when folks will destroy a piece of history just so someone with money can have ONLY the tiny portion they want, and to hell with the rest.

On the other hand, many people say the same "basic" thing about MDers out in the parks and playgrounds. They say you're digging up the ground and making a mess of things, just so you can pilfer and pillage what someone else has lost.

Yes, a lot of ground in between these two extremes, but still basically the same thing -- at least in this pea-brain of mine. So IS there a 'right' and a 'wrong'? Only when it comes to the "personal" values, morals and principles that people wish to place on any such action.

So for "me"....yes, it's very sad when someone breaks up a part of history just to make a profit. On the other hand, what business is it of mine? Main point is that the original be documented so that information can be kept historically accurate. ....If you opened an unknown Egyptian tomb in a formerly unknown pyramid and found many, many riches, would you leave the dust intact?? If not, then why not? It's part of the artifact's significant history, isn't it?

DISCLAIMER - My brain ain't been working real great the past couple of days. Will probably read over this at a later time and wish I'd never posted. ....Oh well, here goes nuttin!

As you say lots of gray areas in between. Case in point if memory serves me correctly about 75% of the artifacts found in
King Tut's tomb in Egypt went missing and this was by supposed archeologists so obviously they aren't lily white either.

But since anything in the ground older than 50 years is in theory the property of the Federal government in Canada so I've been saving up all my rusted bottle caps, nails, etc....and will turn them in down the road....lol.

First off is it solid or shaped like a lid? It certainly is different than what you'd expect from a stone which is worked.
