Folks,

An interesting video about a family living a permaculture lifestyle on 1/4 urban homestead.

ECS,

So true about the store marinated meat. A professional butcher who had worked for a major supermarket chain for 17 years told me that a few years ago.

The reason was he said fresh meat should only be on the shelf for 2 or 3 days and beyond that should be frozen, however, the stores would cheat and marinade it to cover up and off flavors and charge you a premium on meat that was beyond the best before date....neat trick don't you think....:laughing9::laughing9::laughing9:
That is a very common practice even at major chain super markets.
PS; Are MOORE's Marinades available in our neighbor in the GREAT WHITE NORTH?

Will try it with "my" beer !!

Looks good, we can't get that beer here...

Marinade..Vinho d' alhos

1 cup really good quality barrel aged red wine vinegar
1 cup good quality dry white wine
1/2 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
12 garlic cloves minced
2 tablespoons kosher salt
1/4 cup sweet paprika
1 teaspoon dried red pepper flakes
8-12 black peppercorns

ECS,

They don't seem to be available in Canada. We tend to do most of our marinades from scratch and salad dressings also we're probably the exception though.

Regards + HH

Bill

We tried now many meat with marinate but it is nothing for me. For me the taste is simply horrible. I can not put in in the near of my mouth anymore without starting to po***
Also the own taste of the meat is complete gone. Many also tasting sweet... remembers me very much on Indian "food"
Sweetness and meat.... a no go :laughing7: :tongue3:

What kind of marinate do you have in the US and what is in it? And is the meat with marinate you can buy in shops are also bad in taste?

So you are saying that the marinades are so bad you can't "finnish" them?

Let me snap a quick pic of a few of the marinades we have here.

Hey Bart, if your on here, just stopping in for a second.

Forgot to get you that number on the burl buyer, I just wanted to let you know I emailed the hand letting him know that I need him to forward me that number, once I get it I will pass it along.

would have hit you on a PM but for some reason mine does not work, or maybe I am doing it wrong, who knows, no time to mess around so I thought this thread is just as good as PM.

Take Care,

It doesn't have to be kosher salt that's just the recipe I have printed out. I used to buy the marinade pre made I can't find it anywhere now.

Hey OddJob... where ya been man ?

Tom,

kosher salt is pretty much the same thing as sea salt or pickling salt. In other words not processed most salt is bleached, iodized, etc....

Hey guys another update I found two wheats a 1948 d and a 1942. Most exciting news I get to hunt a place that was built in the early 1900's it's never been hunted my imagination is running wild with what I will find
