I don't know if it is real. I do know that it is not one of those gift shop reproductions. It is far too detailed to be one of those.

Did you find it or buy it? If you bought it and know not where it was found it could be anything now days. If you found it I would say real.

It is hard enough to tell on many color photos if an artifact is fake, it is close to impossible to tell if an artifact is fake by a black and white photo unless it is an extremely poor reproduction..... Many use acid baths to give it fake patina...

Try tasting it with your tounge, if it tastes salty is a very good chance it's a fake using acid bath. (Exception being you just found it at a salt water beach...LOL)

Very good info I never knew you could do that. I guess I will be licking points for now on before I buy them. or not lol. Unless it is a very good repro you can usually tell by the feel of the point at least I can anyway.

I should also say I don't see anything exceptionally alarming about it, other than the fact that it's a modern black and white picture with no background on the find.

It's almost impossible to say from just grainy photo. I don't understand why people do this. They post one photo at a bad angle and expect people to determine good or bad. Show multiple photos from all angles and we can get a better idea of whether it's good or not.

Are the edges really sharp? Looks hardaway-ish still something looks strange about it to fresh looking in my opinion.. what's the story behind it? Found? Did you buy it? Go have it carbon dated. Need more pictures need to see that base and the edges also backside

thanks, the edges are sharp enough to cut a sirloin. It looks really clean and fresh, too but I think it's real. I found it along with a cache of Cahokia points in Kentucky. The field was just plowed. I'm waiting for the papers from a well-known authenticator and will have the flint carbon dated if he rejects it. The farmer's son said it looked like a Ft. Payne Greenbrier. The Cahokias it was found in association with were all made from obsidian and all are for sell. Sorry for the photos, it won't let me upload better pics. I also found this un-notched Clovis on the same site. 6 5/8" x 1 5/8"

If you found that yourself in a freshly plowed field...why are you asking if it is real..then giving a sales pitch?? And also radio carbon dating is only going to tell you the age of the stone itself not when it was chipped into shape.
