Tomorrow is a big day for me. I will be going for my business license to start, what I hope and Pray will be a great adventure for me. I don't plan on becoming rich, but my daddy once told me that you always are happiest when you enjoy doing what you enjoy the best and I love researching history (genealogy) and restoring family photos, etc.

Below is some I have done, before and after pics. I would really appreciate your HONEST OPINION... as if I had did this for you.... would you be happy with the outcome?

I am my own worse critic and I am always finding flaws in my work, where others usually don't see... so even though in the photos I am posting some of my recent work, I still find flaws where I should have done something different....

And I'm still working on Monty's...the one I posted on his thread about his third grade class (I did it cause I wanted a challenge and believe you me...that photo is a challenge for me!!! Monty did NOT ask me to do it, I took it upon myself to work with it and I will not repost here, as I don't have his permission to post his photo, but I did repost on his own thread that he made. I'm so happy he posted that pic....it has really helped me hone in on my skills!!!)

I Thank You for your time and your corrective criticism (and kind words ). I am very nervous about starting my new venture...but failing is NOT the end of the world and I am sure as I get myself known around the community, I will do fine. (fingers crossed).

First two pics are of my grandfather when a young lad. The next two are postcards he had from WWI that I now have in my family history files. The third one is my husband's grandmother and the last is of me and my mother while living in Germany. It was Mother's Day 1958.

Alot depends on the photo.

Take the Veteran's Hospital postcard...that took me about 4 hours (with breaks! )

The one of my hubby's grandmother took me about 2 hours to do....I just did that one tonight!

It depends on what the original photo looks like (i.e., rips, scratches, discoloration, etc). I save at different times...so besides the original, I will have the same photo 6, 7, or 8 times saved (with different file names). I NEVER REPLACE THE ORIGINAL!!! This way, by saving at different steps, I can always go back and change something or fix something I don't like. And after I get done, I like to play with borders, framing, etc....I love experimenting!!!

Please note....the first two photos of my grandfather, those were scanned. The other photos I posted...were taken with my Canon Digital Camera.

And Thank You Trish for those kind words.... yes, I take alot of pride in my work. Once told by a Chief, "If it's not good enough for you, it's not good enough for the client." I was an Illustrator Draftsman in the Navy.

EVERYONE...THANK YOU so very much. You sure know how to build up a girls confidence! I know I will be a nervous wreck tomorrow, but I just feel it's my time and if I don't follow my heart's desire, I may never do it. I have been playing around with this idea for several years and if I don't try, I will never know. And it's not so much getting my license, it's getting the clients and making sure I make them happy with the outcome! Whew.....got butterflies in my tummy thinking about my new adventure! LOL

PS: I do want to mention...that photo of Monty's from his third grade class....if you go to his post...the one I posted, that took me alittle over 6 hours... lots of work. I do NOT like the outcome, so I have been working on it again, concentrating more on the faces first. It's really coming out pretty darn good....practice practice practice!

If there is anything wrong with those photo restorations, they escaped me. Again, excellent work.

Annemarie, Looks like high quality work to me. You did a beautiful job...not only with these photos but with Monty's also.

I love old photo's such as of your grandfather's. What really tears me up is to see old photos like these at antique shops or auctions up for sale. As if they were just tossed aside or family did not want them anymore.

I totally understand where they are coming from and the intent behind what they are saying but I also know it makes you far more critical of yourself than you need to be if you are truly a conscientious person already. You are very conscientous and take pride in what you do and will exceed the expectations of your clients so you will do just fine! You do beautiful work!!
