ROLL CALL!

Hey gang,
I went to a Army surplus store to get some pins of my old units and found out the 2 of them are defunct. The 23rd combat eng is no longer a unit. Sad, they were around since before WWII and the other unit AFCENT is no under a different command.... I guess I'm getting old.....

Proud Military Brat
I served as a dependant for the first 11 years of my life.

Dad was in youth Marine Corp reserve while in H.S.

After graduation he enlisted in the Army Air Forces, which became the U.S. Air Force that same year (1947).

I came into the world at Loring AFB. Two weeks later I was at Lackland AFB, for 5 years while he was a T.I.

Then on to Goose Bay, Labrador......McGuire AFB, NJ......KAS, Turkey, where he was first Sergeant of the base.

He retired as Senior Master Sergeant in '68

I have seen plenty and learned more than most kids growing up. I don't have a hometown to go back to, but I am richer for the experiences of growing up on Base. To me, military brats just seem to be more "well rounded".

Thank you to all who serve and have served.

Well if nothing else, you should be able to show those folks in Idaho how to conduct a proper Oktoberfest!

Drove a truck delivering everything, AVLB bridges, Mail, Groceries, eqiupment, ammo. We drove regular Semis like you see on the street. Cab-over international transtar with sleepers. Been to every base in Europe a hundred times, air bases in Holland, Shusterburg comes to mind. We even drove through checkpoint Charlie all they way to Berlin in a convoy one time.

How cool would it be to run into one of your old buddies here!
