Today was 62 degrees and I did a quick hunt before it drops to 19 degrees overnight with 7 inches of snow on the way. My first park was a dud....only toasted pennies. Then I went to a smaller one with soft soil and had the best finds in 45 minutes! I hit the large old key as soon as I turned my detector on. The ring is sterling silver, but I am sure the diamond is a cz...it fits my left ring finger perfectly. I found it on the side of a hill. Next I got a solid 99 hit at 2 inches, and pulled out the biggest coin I have found to date: a bicentennial Full Dollar with Dwight D. Eisenhower on it. To finish it off, I found the cute yellow car.

Nice hunt, liking the sterling ring. Interesting opener(churchkey)
A churchkey is an opener used to open flat top beer cans before they had pull tabs. It's called a churchkey for several reasons. The original openers used to open beer bottles (before canned beer existed) looked similar to the large old-fashioned keys the monks used to open the church and also to lock up the precious beer they brewed to keep it safe. Then the name was adopted for all tools used to open beer. There is an ironic twist. A saying became popular, โ€œIf you used a churchkey (i.e. drank a beer) you would be less likely to open the door of a church to attend servicesโ€.

Congratulations on your success. Big coins are always a thrill. Winter is upon you. We don't have snow yet but it won't be long.

Thanks for sharing, Pepperj! I always enjoy learning new things. Is that your cat in your profile pic? I have a big orange tabby, he weighs 15 pounds!

I get another chance this weekend to hunt...it will be 60 degrees and sunny-go figure. The snow will be all gone by tomorrow. I was totally surprised by that big coin, Against the Wind!
