So you don't believe in dowsing, eh!

Take a look at my interactions with the map dowsers on this site. And remember as your read that Red_desert gave me his opinion in a private message. Red_desert and I were like 2 cops holding back evidence from the press. Only he and I knew.
Then how did Okiedowser AND Teleprospector nail down the exact same area, on their places to explore?? I find it amazing.
IMHO I don't think we Treasurenet members know how lucky we are to have them.

Sometimes you have think out side the box that most people keep themselves in, to be successful. Go with what works!

No, I don't believe in dowsing... eh! And this should probably be moved to the dowsing forum since that forum was made specifically for posts like this.

The post here was to draw attention to the fact that there IS a dowsing forum. I believe it is under utilised and thought perhaps it was because not many people new about it. Back in the day, people were thrown into institutions for hearing voices in the air. Then someone invented the radio! Ooops, sorry about that crazy person,

I like to think I have an open mind. If someone shows me something I believe it exists. If they don't have anything to show, not so much.. You, of course are entitled to believe anything you want. I would honestly enjoy seeing piles of gold that were located by dowsing if that, in fact, EVER happens. PS... you're comparison makes no sense. Hearing voices without a radio will still get you thrown into an institution.. Metal detectors are an electronic device (like a radio) that detect metal due to proven scientific technology. Dowsing is not. But... I am willing to consider that it's not impossible. Just am one of those people who likes proof. Catch the Easter Bunny in a trap and SHOW it to me. I'll become a believer..

The tone of the post (especially the title) was a "na na na na na" singsong tone that appears to have been meant to provoke a "See? I'm right and you people are wrong" confrontation. You may not have meant it that way but that is the way that most people would take it. I'm glad to see that the moderators have moved this post to the proper place. Your post was a challenge to those who do not believe. It is no different than someone pointing to a "miracle of nature" and then getting in someone's face and saying "So you don't believe in God eh?".

As for your specific case, I'm not sure why you think you suddenly have proof of something. It is very common to be able to take a random picture and hand it to a group of people and have them key in on the same basic areas. Take a picture of a stream/river and show it to 3 prospectors and they are all likely to tell you the exact same places to look for gold. And it doesn't take dowsing to do that. Take a picture of a homestead and show it to 3 seasoned treasure hunters and they will all likely tell you the same basic areas that are more likely to have treasure. It's called experience. Take a picture of anything and hand it to 3 random people on the street and ask them if any areas "stick out" in their mind. They are likely to key in on the same basic areas. Was it dowsing? No. It was simply human nature in response to visual patterns that catch our eye and our attention. We are wired to see certain patterns easier than others which will make most people key in on certain areas of a map while completely ignoring others.

But if you are so convinced, prove us all wrong. Go the distance! Go out there and find that treasure! But don't stop if you don't find it in the first 3 feet of digging. After all, most dowsers will claim that they can find treasure over 100 feet deep! In fact, there are countless dowsers who have done that very thing. They have tracked the treasure to an exact spot and then found that it must be too deep for them to find. But don't let that stop you. You are CONVINCED! Rent that excavation equipment even if you have to mortgage everything you own. After all, if three different dowsers identified the same spot then that treasure must be huge! Go for it. Excavate the next "money pit" until you find that treasure or go broke trying. And when you find it be sure to come back here and show it to us....... so that we can all collectively say..... "meh".

I actually just took a better look at your specific picture/post that you had dowsed. Well... that is TRULY amazing. Let me get this straight...

1. You had a good feeling about a couple of places and pre-screened them by presenting only images of the ones you felt good about. It just so happens that you chose to concentrate on an area around a river. Gee! Who would have thunk it that a prospector would concentrate his efforts around a river? Perhaps you have a bit of psychic powers yourself eh?

2. All three dowsers came up with placer deposits around the river. Gee! What are the odds? Who would have thunk it that there would be gold around a river?

3. All three dowsers came up with locations that are basically centered in the image. Gee! What are the odds? It's not like the center of the image attracts your attention more than the others. That reminds me... after looking at several dowsing pictures out here I have determined that treasure is never found on the edges of maps. Therefore, if you want to increase your chances of finding treasure, never look in areas that are on the edge of a map.

The reality is that you will go to these places picked by these dowsers and likely find some gold anyway. Gee! What are the odds? Finding gold at a gold claim at a place on the river that you already picked as having some special significance to you? Astounding!

For those of you who don't know, this thread started in the General section and was moved here by the moderators. For the record, I rarely comment in the dowsers forum. I believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I don't come in here and try to convince you otherwise. I think that what the dowsers do here for the community is admirable. Most dowsers truly believe in what they do. They are not in it for profit or notoriety. And they are not shysters trying to take your money (some are but most aren't). So I can respect that. But you specifically came out of the forum to "spread the word" to us "non-believers". Because of that I see you as being akin to those pesky people who knock on my door and ask me if I've "heard the good news". You came to OUR house and knocked on our door. So don't be too surprised if you find that most of us slam the door in your face. So I see this as being a slightly different bird so to speak and that is why I have commented somewhat harshly. I will not comment on any other thread in the dowsers forum because I do not intend to become that person that "knocks on your door". This is your forum and you should be able to live peacefully in it with your own beliefs.

I'm glad you believe and I truly hope you find gold on your claim. After all, if you don't find some gold then it isn't much of a claim now is it? Just don't expect all of us to look at what you have presented as "proof" and suddenly change our belief systems based on it. I don't see anything astounding or spectacular. What I see is a prospector who showed a map of a claim that he expects to have gold on anyway who was told that the gold is likely to be found on formations in the middle of the map which just happens to also be next to the river. Coincidence? Hmmmm.....

P.S. - Not sure whether you noticed this or not, but Red_desert's huge yellow circle actually does NOT match up with Teleprospector's green box. They are different locations entirely. But hey, concentrate on that river and you'll likely do well. And don't miss the opportunity to show this same map to members of the prospecting forum. It is likely that they may have some non-dowsing based insight that might serve you just as well. Good luck.

Welcome to our little part of the forum....You can think anything that you want to....We will keep spreading the word...If I can put a person in the area that I mark it is then their job to find the treasure.......No pressure just go out and enjoy your hobby....Heck ...I don’t get out to much anymore....If I feel like it I can lay down under a tree and take a nap.....Am I having fun...Yes...Art

I'm pretty good at maps as well.
During the season and late at night, I sit in front of the computer; smoke a joint and get blasted.
I pull up Google Earth and stare at images near my area.
The herb gives me the patience to sit there and stare for half an hour.
Then it all comes to me.... A height of land overlooking the river with a swamp to the south.
It's gotta be something!
The hamsters spin the wheel even faster inside my head and I've convinced myself of where to go hunting the next day.
Then the munchies kick in and I flop down on the couch and watch a movie.... eating an entire bag of chips!
Now the proof......wait for it!
The next day I call up a buddy and we head out to my "specially selected" new site. We find the owner, get permission and with in minutes......
Start to find colonial and Native artifacts. Works every time!
Honest! Ask my buddies.
Just telling y'all what works for me.....eh!
:icon_pirat:
Cheers,
Dave.

As I said in my post Art, I think that what members of the dowsing community do is admirable. You get nothing in return and you do it solely because you believe in it. That is just fine with me.

I also have no problem with some ultra-religious person worshiping their religion in their own church, home, neighborhood, and even in public places. But if they come and knock on MY door and try to spread the word with a sing-song "na na na na na" attitude then they are going to get the door slammed in their face. So if someone who believes in dowsing does virtually the same thing then they can expect the same treatment.

As I said, I don't come in to the dowsing forum and bash your beliefs. You are free to believe anything you want to believe. Good luck.

wishbone, I love it! The old "un-discovered science" line to bolster the legitimacy of dowsing. A bullet proof circular logic defense that no one can disprove. Don't ya love it? Goes kind of like this: Dowsing may not have a scientific explanation NOW, but someday, science will come to the rescue and explain it. Sort of like how scientists once told us that powered flight was impossible, or that the earth was flat, and so forth, right?

ok, then let's apply that logic to this: Let's say I tell you I have a treasure hunting system that involves spreading peanut butter and birdseed on a tennis shoe. You throw it up in the air, and which direction the shoe points to when it lands on the ground, is the direction of treasure! Wohoo! And if you try to say "that's nonsensical and silly", all I need to do is tell you that a) it's undiscovered science ,and b) you're not being open-minded.

You see how circular impenetrable logic works? Simply wonderful!

Wow.....too much anger for me. Didn't think the bashing was called for. Third time I've seen it tody. First site I've been on that the mods allowed the intentional disrespect. Shame...good site.

Like I said... feel free to share your beliefs and mock others for not believing all you want if you stay in here. Knock on my door and shove your beliefs in my face while implying that I must be naive or uninformed for not believing and you can expect me to slam the door. Don't like that? Don't knock on my door.

If Wishbone had come to the General forum and said "I was really surprised by these dowsing results. I think there could be something to this stuff." then I wouldn't have even commented. But he didn't. He gave us the old "So you are still a naive nonbeliever EH?" (paraphrased). And of course, you think nothing of that do you? Wishbone cast the first stone in this argument.

I've tried to be cordial (within reason) while discussing the subject. Trust me... for the sake of forum harmony I have REALLY held back (you aint seen nothin' yet!). And I was especially cordial to Art and his response.

No hard feelings as far as I'm concerned and I welcome everyone in this forum to believe what the want to believe. But if you specifically ask me why I don't believe or directly challenge my beliefs then you can expect me to come back and tell you why. Don't like it? Don't ask...

Or didn't your Mom ever tell you that it is rude to ask a question if you don't intend to listen for the answer?

I'll say one more thing about the mods and this forum..... you appear to be new here and perhaps you may not understand that the Dowsing forum has a very long history of getting nasty very fast. The mods tend to give this one a little more leeway than other forums on this site. Both sides of the argument have gone over the line and have been smacked down a time or two. But in general, this forum is usually allowed to run its course since both sides tend to have thick skin.

If I have hurt Wishbone's feelings or the feelings of anyone else on this forum then I apologize. It was not my intention and I only did so with the belief that this specific forum is usually a little bit more contentious than others. If the mods feel that I have crossed the line then I am sorry and will gladly remove all of my own posts.

Well even tho the dowsers are'nt exactly at the same spot we are still very close so now what's left to do is check the locations out in the field.Jon

Jon, yup that's right: The dowsing gets you close to the spot, and then you bring out a metal detector to "pinpoint" it. Right? So you tell me, if you wave your coat hanger at enough likely looking ruins, and then pull out your detector to "pinpoint", is it any surprise that .... gasp ... metal is there? I can probably take my metal detector to ANYWHERE and find metal. Especially if I'm at likely spots where human activity occured, to begin with.

That is correct....I will not go hunting without a dowsed map...and I will use any and all tools to find gold...and tom tells use his shoe theory often...If I see a post on any board where I think I can be of help I respond...That is what T-net is all about...and Muddyhandz....If it works for you keep doing it...Art

TOM,

The P-nut butter & birdseed is totally for the birds...y'all know it only works if you connect a 9V battery to a pair of chopsticks and add sum grape jelly...:laughing7:

I agree. Check the locations out in the field. And my prediction..... Wishbone will find at least some gold on his claim. Perhaps even in those positions that were marked. The big question is.... would he have found more or LESS gold if he had not followed the dowsers recommendations? Do those edges of the map that most dowsers seem to ignore potentially hold some of the biggest gold reserves on the claim? Could be... then again, maybe not. That's why it's called prospecting.

If Wishbone really wants to build up a belief system that includes dowsing then he should go into this with an open mind and not only check the areas that the dowsers have identified but also some of those that weren't. Then compare the results. If he is finding more gold in places that the dowsers didn't identify then he can confidently say that these particular dowsing results were off base. If his finds are consistent with the dowser's results then it adds some level of credibility to those results, but only to the extent that he is willing to also accept the possibility that dowsing may have not had anything at all to do with where those locations were chosen. If an average prospector would have looked at the same map and chosen the same positions without using dowsing then we can't say that dowsing is 100% responsible for the results.

Anyway, good luck either way. I hope Wishbone finds a big old pile of gold for himself.
