Thanks BCI. Took many years to find'em. It is now illegal in GA to pick up artifacts in waterways. Sad to know they are out there, but you can't rescue them.

That really sucks, what is the reason behind that?
How do they define waterway, the water and so many feet of bank? Sounds like a lot of BS to me.
Glad you have that great collection.

Same thing here since 2005.
Now this is just my opinion..but.. a combination of greed and the Internet getting big is what got the isolated finds program put in the crapper.

If you can use a boat with a motor then it is illegal. If it is a creek and can only walk it then it is ok. All rivers are illegal.

Even with the creek you still have to be on land you have permission to hunt.

Those are amazing finds. Thanks for sharing.

Agreed. Money was being made, no taxes paid. State couldn't stand that!

A bit more to it but It doesn't belong here.. shame either way.
It cost all of us way more than they gained.

On a side note, I spent a month in a bar ONE night where the band "Kinchafoonee Cowboys" played! Killer band back in the day! Nice heads too by the way :)

I did not know it is illegal to pick up artifacts in water ways:dontknow:, in what states is it the law. Where I live you just have to get land owner permission, by law all lands in the state is posted. The only place that I know of you can't pick up artifacts are on fed. and state land.

In most states all land that makes up the bottom of a navigateable waterway is state property and not privately owned.

We call it corp property based on a sea level elevation around a waterway and its illegal to dig but not find on top of ground

They are from the county I live in. Only saw them once, but they rocked.

My best friend who passed away suddenly at 31 years old in 2001 was an arrowhead expert. We hunted pretty regularly here in S. GA and he always told me it was illegal to hunt heads anywhere on land or rivers, and if you were to see the man in green not to say we were headhunting, but were looking for lost tractor implement. I thought this was kind of silly and I smile every time I find a piece of flint while detecting! :)

What gives them the right to tell me what i can pick up ? I'm still waiting for my royalty checks from the government for all of the oil, gas, gold, silver, timber etc..they have been taking from our lands. Anyone ever get a check ?

They say it belongs to the people. If that's true, why don't they share the money with the people ?

I will pick up anything i please.
