Got a chance to hunt this morning before the rain, called my hunting partner for the last 41+ years... (My Dad) He has been there through thefruitless days and through the golden days.... This day wasn't any diferent than the others except the fact I am noticing that it takes him a few more minutes to get into and outa the truck... for you see he is going to be 81 this Novemeber..... He put on his happy face and says go get a good one..... (I think I did) This is where I need your help.... Never found one before, so I am not to sure what I am looking, at or what I have... In fact it may not be anything good at all... but my hopes are high... We didn't find many coins, or any silver, or jewelry, what we found was cross coin 2012 (4).webpcross coin 2012 (9).webp that we enjoy each others company more now than ever....... Here are a few pictures of the coin and a brief discription... It is paper thin, a little smaller than a U.S. Dime... not sure if it's silver, brass,or even bronze? It has a cross on one side and NO DATE..... on the other side it seems almost look like a miniture, but very worn standing liberty quarter... very strange... not even sure what side the date would be on if it had one... Thanks for looking and helping in advance.... Whydah

Tough one, but could be a religious medal with the top broken off.

Thanks I .P. I knew you would chime in.... Very possible.... It does have something on both sides...never seen one like this...

I have a silver coin off the Chamaeu (1725) and when it came out of the water it looked bronze, kind a like the photo on the left until I used electrolysis on it.
I hope your coin is off the Whydah, would be a very cool find. Keep us posted, may be some better pix.

Sorry I meant the photo on the right.:tongue3:

I have no knowledge of old spanish coins, but looks like an old spanish coin for sure from the 1700's. the cross, and the color, and the general look/shape all point to it.

Looks like a circa 19th C Jetton to me, it may take awhile to get an ID as there are so many.

Whatever it turns out to be, It's a cool find.:icon_thumleft:

:occasion14: keep your Pop around as long as you can.......

It looks like an English/British hammered coin.

I think we may have a winner .... just need the dates that they were produced... and what denomitations?

I'm not so sure....your cross appears to have a uniform thickness along each axis, those hammered coins have tapered crosses. I'm sure you can tell better in person. Maybe there are hammered coins with a different cross style. Neat coin!

Search google/bing images for variations of... medieval british spanish hammered coins cross anchor scale, ect. There should be a few similar to what Whydah found.

He's also saying that it is bronze...did they make hammered bronze?? What about copper? A first I thought it to be a Spanish Marevedis Cob, but it's too round to be a cob methinks.

Yes I'm thinking maybe something like this Saint Benedict medal.

Sounds much more likely as you can clearly see what looks like a person standing on the front (after seeing your example). Even appears to have outstretched arms.

Interesting Nick....could be hammered bronze too...what's left of the pic on the other side I guess is key and determining when anything has broken off the item. Thx for the link!
