Went to nearby town and asked for halves and she says they have about $80 worth. They were all in a tray and she brings it over to the counter and asks how many I want - All of them of course. She then starts laying them out in stacks of 2 and looking at everyone. She mutters, "65..." and back it goes in the tray. I give her another 30 seconds of doing this and then ask if she is planning on taking all the silver. She gets really flustered and says something to the effect of, "oh, I was just looking at them and some on these are not halves and am putting them back...." It really was that ridiculous. I said, "really? the 1965 you just put back sure looked like a half to me." Another customer comes in and she asks another teller to finish up with me and goes to wait on the other guy. I ended up getting them all and got 4 40%s out of it.

I sure can not blame the teller, and I think if we worked in a bank, we would be date checking coins every chance we got. However, I can not EVER imagine sorting through them right in front of a customer and putting the ones I wanted back. I would think if a customer came in looking for halves, they probably knew a little bit about them; and taking the valuable ones out right in front of them? I don't think so.

Happened to me lots of times. It really ticks me when they silver "bounce" a coin on the counter.
Or, when the teller calls down the line, "stacy, did you want this Franklin?"

I can't blame them either, but working in a bank gives you so much downtime. You are really only working 20%, maybe 30% of the time you are there. The rest of the time, you are just trying to not fall asleep. I don't understand why they can't look for silver during downtime.

Broseph, let me tell you i had a bank in a small town on a big road trip cull $20 face in front of me...that's right $20 face in half dollars. She first told me that they had $600 with quit assureedness, goes and gets them all which some were in those canvas bags the had to be "counted". This gal with another lady comes over to help in the crime, and begins to "count". This bank was a older bank that has the walls that come up to your chest so i can't really see what they are doing. And this was the first time this happened to me so i wasn't totally for sure but had read about it so i was a little concerned. But I was chatting them up and they seemed friendly. Well when all the counting was done. They had only $580 ??? While they were doing all that i could hear the silver so i knew there was some good silver and I had been hitting on this trip like crazy. So go through it and only one 40% they missed. I'm positive they culled that missing $20 with all the sweet clanging of Ag I heard. And since i was out of state and not a customer i didn't say anything. Next time i would probably say something and fight for the goods

I like the part where she tells you that it wasn't a half. :icon_scratch:

Once we suspect they are culling coins, we have to state clearly that we want all of them or none of them or just the silver ones they are taking out.

I will never understand why any teller in the world wouldn't buy silver out of the vault or out of their tray immediately.

It is one thing to find and cull silver, but it is an entirely different thing to let it sit in the bank, and then call dibs when a customer requests it.

"Oh, those aren't half dollars"

rofl, what a lame excuse.

It's happened to me before. Silver staring right at me and the teller tells me "no, those are mine", as they sat there in the tray. Needless to say, as far as that bank is concerned... Yes I can take a dump where I eat.

Just so you guys know, asking for the Branch Manager's telephone number and filing a formal complaint will probably get the silver in your hands. Banks take customer service really strict, especially if it's a privately owned bank or credit union. Bank Tellers aren't in short supply, so if you do get someone being an ass, then call them out on it. Be a dick. It works.

Funny how I suggested that a while back on a similar type thread.. bunch of people on this forum all jumped on me for the idea of it.

I would recommend to the teller one thing... "If you want to keep specific coins, put them aside so that people won't be asking for them. That saves everyone hassle!"

Ive seen this a lot cherry picker tellers who openly have silver coins in their trays. Why not put them in your drawer out of sight if your saving them?

Reminds me of sharing a bunk bed with my brother. He would wait till he heard me getting up [upper bunk] till he got up [lower bunk] to use the bathroom.

This is exactly how I chose my dump bank!!!! Have fun looking at all those clad halves!!! ;D

This happen to my brother yesterday. Teller says I have two rolls. The teller opens them and says he needs to count them. My brother says no you don't. Teller does it anyway. My brother hears the nice sound of silver hitting the counter. Teller says I'm sorry this one is short two dollars. Then gives my brother $18 in skunk... I told my brother he should have called foul since he has an account with said bank. He does not want to cause a stink. :BangHead: :angry4: :angry5: :pain10:

"oh, I was just looking at them and some on these are not halves and am putting them back...."

She needs to work harder on her Jedi mind trick abilities.
