We have Jacob S. Wisner (carpenter) who was with F Company, 54th Infantry, Illinois...
and the same Jacob S. Wisner who filed for a Civil War Pension in May of 1891 from Arizona...
and a Jacob Wisner who held stock in the Farmer's Irrigation Company in Yuma A.T...
and now Jacob S. Wisner's final resting place.
It is a long way from the Superstitions but here he is, the same Jacob S. Wisner resting in Broome County, New York. I think that there is more to this story than understood.

Why? Yes, why? Why do anything so "theatrical" and secretive in nature?
Any explanation that I could offer would only be a guess.
What about you? You and your Masonic friends in that little cabin up north way.
When you gentleman are not busy making toys for children, what do you do with your spare time?
You are making the assumption that what is "there" can be "dug up". I am just not sure yet.
One thing about your search area. Most, I am told, can be soil sampled.
A good sampling can validate your site and, in turn, your efforts. It might even go a long way to help in that eventual conversation with park officials.
That will not be easy.
My search area has been professionally sampled, with good results.
So, naturally, I believe that I am on the correct path.
Sorry if this has already been found and posted. I dont really know much about the LDM legend. I merely skimmed through this thread and found it interesting. Since its late and I love research I thought I would poke around and research a few of the names from this thread. I found the following images related to the Wisner mentioned in the quote. I don't think they add much to the story but its kinda cool seeing the actual documents. These are the front and back of the VA pension payment cards. Its kinda hard to read in some places but it looks like it has his exact death date.

Hal:
Secretive yes, theatrical no.
In our spare time, we look for things misplaced by others, not yet found.
Things under unusual rock piles or piles of unusual rock.
That's why I wouldn't bother hiking out to the "pit mine".
I would let the archaeologists do any soil sampling and screening. I just want to see what's laying around and stored inside.
If what was inside is still there !

I did not know that you belonged to that club.
Ritualistic might be a better word.
I don't belong to any club, Hal. And I don't do rituals.
Too much a "my way" type, I guess.
But now and then we work together for our mutual benefit.
And history can be made from a single handshake. At least that's the way I see it.
Regards:SH.
garren,It looks like your right about this. You may already have this document but I'll post it just in case you need it. Its from New York county marriage records.

I did not know that you belonged to that club a fraternal organization like the Freemasons.
Ritualistic ...Histronic...might be a better word.
Secrets, secrets everywhere and not a soul to tell.
garren,
It did not end well for Jacob.
Jacob seems to have always been on the move.
If you're fishin Hal, try another bait.
Your "Freemasons" don't even look real to me.
Is Histronic's what makes them metal detectors work so good
But if you mean Histrionics...then I've got a whole bunch of P/M's from a while back, fulla that kinda stuff.
Regards:SH.
Yes Wayne
