Morning WD, you we’re so right, it normally takes a bucket of noisy frogs to stop me sleeping, but last night i really struggled with the idea of sleeping 😂😂 xx
You got the monkey off your back, and you found a hammie that is older than "can't get him out the door".
Congrats again,
Just wondering what the first words said when you found it?
The Rod Blunt page on the hammered ID is pretty good.

Morning Sir Pepper nd a salute to your olfactory skills 😆
Ah I think that sometimes my olfactory hallucinations get the better of me.
Split phantosmia as the one nostril detected a foul lead
Though it has been said lead is your friend.

Lead is an interesting topic, before I embarked on my detecting adventure, I never gave it a second thort, but now I am fascinated by it…. Its Not flash like it’s siblings gold and silver, but boy did it shape our lives 😆 x

So true that.
Where in this world have we ever heard get the gold/silver out of your pants.
Lead won
"Get the lead out of your pants"

Indeed, and if you are lucky enough to have it in ur pencil…. Well then The world becomes your lobster cos you can write to do lists and draw pictures 🤔

Well I guess the rubbing on a Half Crown, A Barber Half, George Half that produced the blackish mark on the thumb and smells like an egg fart is my imagination then. :laughing7:
Coins smell pepper... for they are not sterling or higher.

Most are 400 - 900... and everything in-between.

Silver has no smell unless it has been kept in close proximity of some other metals... and as we know... all business strike coins are not pure and contain other metals... which would equate to the smells you are referring to and the silver content and other metal content can and will equate to black streaks. BUT... you can get black streaks from any well worn coin... be it silver or not.

Also... if found in pocket change it will also smell due the environmental / elemental situations.

But a sterling silver item OR higher that is cleaned and free of any residues of cleaning products will have ZERO smell.

Still the best videos about the 1733 fleet....his first mission is the san felipe.....many people came before me to this wreck.....not much was ever found in the way of treasure...a coin here and there. Then a few of us started looking inshore of the wreck. In the chest to waist deep water, and up on the dune of the beach I was able to find the main base camp where all the treasure and survivors were concentrated after the wreck !! I belive that I was able to amass more treasure in the last 15 years than all the others before me combined !! Out of all the 1733 wrecks this one has produced for me more than I or anyone else ever imagined was there !! In retrospect.....it was a buried cache of treasure from the wreck of "san felipe" this cache of treasure was disturbed twice.....once by the construction of the Flagler railroad, and once by the construction of U.S.-1 !! This last dig for me and islamorada mark, and my friend Josie produced more than 15 pounds of silver coins for us.....yes thats right....15 pounds !! The true scale of this treasure is finally tallied, and it has been an incredible ride for over 12_15 years !! The lost treasure of matucumbie has been recovered.....im sure there's more there but it will take a hurricane to unlock the rest !!

There is a major piece of info that all before me did not want to take into account. After the 1733 fleet sank more treasure was salvaged by the Spaniards than was listed in the manifests. That means that most of the 12 million pesos of treasure were brought to shore, washed, counted, and repacked before being loaded back aboard the salvage ships and taken back to havana. A major land-based treasure salvage operation. Folks....there is more 1733 treasure on land, than in the water.....thats the main take away on the 1733 fleet, and is true of the 1715 fleet too !! This creates an atmosphere perfect for smuggling, stealing, hiding, and losing the treasure......its still here in pockets on the shoreline !!

Searching for the next camp now !! Woooo hoooo !!

Ah I see the old spit and polished silver trick
Yet I will say not all silver coinage fit in your parameters some indeed are of 92.5% silver content.
Yes us colonel folks had good silver content
