My late father-in-law swore by using a hammer. He kept one in the boot, your trunk, for such occasions as you mention when he drove an old holden sedan. He said you just hit the engine with the hammer and your good to go. 😂There was the time when my car conked out on I-95. - by WIF
I was on my way to work one day and my OLDSmobubble, (over 200 thousand miles on it), decided it needed a break. I had just turned onto I-95, coming from town and just as I went to accelerate up to near the speed limit. It sputtered and died. Most people panic when this happens but that's because they usually drive well maintained, new cars. I've never had the pleasure. But, I digress.
Anyway, I coast over to the shoulder to start my examination. The timing was, of course, not with me. As soon as I reached for the door handle, I noticed a State Police car pulling in behind me. To offer assistance I'm sure. However, I did feel pressed for time as I was about to be late for work, again! The last thing I needed was another time delayer. Opening the door, (being sure to show both my hands to the officer who was still sitting in his car). I nodded, smiled sheepishly and waved.
Then, I held up one finger to indicate for him to wait just one second. He watched and nodded. I walked around to the back of my car, he looked puzzled. I then gave my car a good quick kick in the middle of it's "ass" end! That was it! Luckily, nothing fell off. I indicated to give me another second. Got back in my car and it started right up! I looked back at the officer, still sitting in his car, waved in such a manner as to say, "Everything ok?" He laughed and nodded, indicating I could go. As I signaled and pulled off into traffic, on my merry way. I stole another glance at him still sitting there, laughing !

I use that hammer more often than not for fixing things other than driving a nail, back when all cars still had carburetors it was the tool of choice to "unstick the float" that was causing the engine to flood out, but I always tell people who are having trouble with anything, a computer, a cash register, bar code scanner, their car, etc., "I'll go get my hammer, it will fix anything!!"My late father-in-law swore by using a hammer. Good they missed you. 👍Good morning!☕️ Tornadoes last night in IL. They tracked just south of me. Now we have 40 mph winds this morning. Mother Nature is angry!
