Detector(s) used
Garret Ace250/Prospecter Bounty hunter(Backup)
Long story short.. I had to go help my mom move this past week. It is roughly an hour and a half drive. I stopped at a local park on my way out and found a dainty little sapphire and diamond ring made of 18k gold. Missing one sapphire, but what the heck.. I was pumped because I had JUST turned on my detector. Thought it might make for a lucky day. I found a bit of clad and moved on shortly thereafter.

A couple of small towns later and I decided to hit a park I have been wanting to hit. Saw a lady out there with an Ace250 and talked to her. She was very kind and was trying to dig the signals she was getting with a plastic composite spade of sorts. I let her did with my MightyAP digging tool for awhile and she was thrilled. She told me that there had been a bluegrass festival there the previous two days and my mind was all over the place. Literally.. I kept thinking about where the stage was and where most of the people would have been etc. She also told me the whole place had been full of RV's so I hit the perimeters of where they were parked and the clad started rolling in pretty good.

Then it happened. Dug a nickel signal and saw the light shining off a square cut stone set in a band and a huge rock on top. My heart was racing as I was thinking I had just found about a 3 carat diamond ring. I sat on the ground and literally had to calm myself before I cleaned any soil off of it(not from my pants) and looked at it...I must have let out a WHOOP because the lady came over and asked me what I had found. I showed her the end of the plug and she said, "Dear Lord you hit it big!!!!", and I had. I had hit a BIG Cubic Zirconia. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :P I have dubbed it the Heart Attack Ring and never want to find another one! I haven't used such choice language in quite a long time as I did the first fifteen minutes I walked away from that park.

In the following week I hit my usual places in short bursts and found just one more junk ring and clad. Somewhere in there was a '59 wheat. I found some huge 12 and 14 ounce lead fishing weights used for sturgeon but they went into my tackle box before I could take pix.

I did get in about 6 or 7 hours of total hunting time while away. My net take was....
an 18k sapphire and diamond ring, 54 quarters, 66 dimes,22 nickels, 111 zincoln cents, 3 Saq dollars, and one 1959 wheat...plus a Guatemalan Quetzal worth about 7 cents :o LOL
I hope you all enjoy the story and here are the finds.

Looks like some great finds there. Congrats! Hopefully this weekend I can get out as well. Take care!

Your Friend,

Steve in Michigan

Nice hunts Nashoba and congrats on that 18k! I have not found any jewelry over 14k. HH, Mike

Nash,
Congrats on all of your finds. I'm glad you didn't soil your drawers on the CZ. Wait until you get the real McCoy before you do that. ;D
Looks like you found enough coins to buy a new set of shorts though. ;)
Way to go,
MM

I'd keep it, very pretty stone, I can imagine the feeling looking at it in the plug :o. The 18k is a beauty, who's wearing it? That's some gas ching you have there! Nice post.

I so love the way you tell a story my friend! :D I do believe I would have been wound up as well over that heart attack ring! Nice finds though and so glad the moving game is over too! :D :D

Nice finds Nash..I found one of those rings this year and just 'bout died..sure makes you want to keep at it even though it isn't the real thing. The other ring is nice as well!

Nice amount of clad and the rings look nice too. I know how you feel. My first ring find showed as a quarter it was heavy silver and had what looked like a bunch of small diamonds on the top. Well it wasn't real but did get my heart pounding. Many of us are still waiting for the BIG ONE.

Nice pile of coins Nash!
How many rings you got so far this year?

This 18k puts me at 19 keeper rings this year. Six of those being gold and some kind of stone...everything from the worlds ugliest opal to a full carat of diamonds. 11 are sterling.. Some with stones and some without. I have also found four sterling necklaces and two sterling bracelets. One gold tennis bracelet and three sterling pendants and a large sterling cross embedded with Garnets.

I have lost track of my clad count. You know, spending $20 here and $20 there. I know I passed the 2000 coin mark awhile back, and am nearing probably 3000. I usually dont dig zincolns though. Kind of hard not to pick them up when you see them laying there though.......

Thanks to all who looked at and replied to this post. I'm glad you folks enjoyed it and thanks for the many kudos.
Dang I love this hobby! I could just do without those "Nitro" rings!

Happy hunting to you all!!!!

Nash,

Thanks for posting the great story and pics. You've repeatedly demonstrated what us Ace users eventually learn. It is one hell of a good jewelry machine. My heart pounds every time I get that hit that is steady and ever-so-slightly higher than a nickel.

I just had to laugh about the gargantuan CZ; I had a similar experience with a sidewalk junk ring find that briefly got my heart pumping. I'm sure I looked like a total goober to the folks nearby when I first saw it, did a classic double take, then this spastic scramble to grab it.

Not being totally unsympathetic to your situation, I assure you that I did give silent thanks that at least there was another person around had you actually HAD that heart attack!

Keep the posts coming, they're always enjoyable.

Nash!!! 8) Super finds!!! Glad yer back!!!

Nana :)

Here's a couple of uses for that CZ ring.

Some smart a$$ making fun of you metal detecting, just pull it out of your pouch and watch his face.

Be sure your huntin buddy swings his coil over it and watch his face.

On second thought maybe that's just too mean.....never mind

Feel your pain about that ring Nash! But that 59 wheat is a keeper! ;D
