Treasure Clue, can you help?

Scruffy... looks like one to me...

Also what I've noticed on pg. 55: The border is many cut up pieces of the bigger image, one Darkling is repeated over and over thru the border with slight variations to his surroundings. The Darkling I'm going to try to point out is at the bottom of the page in the big image. In the lower right hand corner of the image is a guy hold a spear, next to him is a guy resting his head on his hand right next to him is the Darkling with wings looking as if he's resting his head on the person's arm that he's standing next to. His face is repeated in the border many times, sometimes he's missing his wings, or the woman is not there, he's standing next to another person that's in a different part of the biger image... etc. I wonder if this is a puzzle that needs to be put together to reveal something...

Has anyone figured out how the "stickman" cipher in the companion book works? I believe it is based upon the number of times a figure is repeated and that is equated to a letter but I was not able to derive the given solution in the book. Anyway, there are many figures duplicated exactly around the border on page 55like the guy with the stocking hat displaying the small vertical lines, which may lead to another line in the poem. if anyone could explain the concept it might prove helpful.

I have a major question. In the companion book, MS has some puzzles called, "What do you think you see?". I guess that means that what our brains "want" to see can sometimes be quite different than what is really there. So, on pg 20-1, many have assumed that the message is (with various interpretations of which are capital and which are lower case letters): Treasures tweleve for you to keep". But, look carefully at the 2nd "e" in the word "twelEve"...it is defintely NOT an "e"! It is clearly either a "p" as in the word "keep", or the number 9...so the correct clue should read "Treasures twelPve for you to keep" or "Treasures twel9ve for you to keep".
Does anyone else see this?
Additionally, in the same message, I simply cannot see a "y" in the word "you". The ONLY angled downward stroke that I see is the bottom right of the letter "R" in the word "foR" (the R's are all capitalized in this message). Even if I completely open the spine of the book, I still do NOT find any letter "y". Could it be that our brains "want" the letter "Y" to be there, so we read it that way? Just as when we see 3 "e"s in the word tweleve, but then find out in reality the 2nd "e" is a "p" or "9"? Please let me know what you think? Thanks

The Octagonal Knothole

The octagonal shaped knothole on page 16 has really intrigued me so I started looking for that shape elsewhere in the book and found that the bodies of the two spiders on pages 20-21 are also octagons. Perhaps there is a connection between these two pages. I also believe that the letter "I" on page 88 may also be a connection because the letter and border have the same pattern of interwoven octagons that are around the spiders. The green fairy on page 88 is also pointing to something that looks like the fuzzy black outline of an "O", and about a half-inch beneath her hand is something that looks like two "nn"s or two "uu"s painted in light green and transected by the line that forms the "O".

Also notice that the tree on page 86 is the exact same as the one on page 20 that Rusful is standing in but without the faces. The faces are only seen when Zac is dreaming. The grid behind the letter "H" on this page is also connected with the grid on page 16 that sits in the tree with the octagonal knothole.

(And has anyone discussed what the 5 colors painted inside the shapes that border pages 20-21 may represent? There are 4 groupings of 19 of these shapes, and 8 of them have sections that do not contain any color and you can see the background peeking through. The patterns of color that appear in each of these shapes are always different which makes me think that its more than just decorative.)

Cal 56,
I have spent LOTS of time on the knotholes. I read one post that stated that the actual state locations were composed of the letters found there. So, I have held my book up to the light and made countless lists of the letters found in ALL of the knotholes, including those very skinny trees where the knothole is paper thin (but hiding an "i"). I was able to come up with many states, but abandoned the whole thing when I realized that I need to focus on the text more for the exact location. The states don't matter if I don't have locations. I think the easier hints, while exciting to find, don't really lead us anywhere. I am currently reading the book again and trying to think more about irregularities within it and hoping that there is a code there. I think it might be a binary code which is scary, because I know so little about them.

I have done a lot of research on fairies and trees and although it does not apply directly to the TreasureTrove search - I ran across this web site and its freaky.? Check it out:
www.fitzroygardens.com Then click on the fairies tree
:o

Gaines, to help you out on that... When the group of bugs leave the linden stump following the Ladybug's lead, they fly out and each bug is listed. At the end when the mates return to the tree, the Butterfly and Ant are not listed and instead the Beetle is twice. Don't know if you can make anything of that, but I over looked it the first five times. :)

Hi. Gaines and Lgoeke
About the knothole on page 16, I swear there is a man's face looking out of it and there is something to the left of his head on the top and bottom of the hole. He looks like the same man as the one on page 55 in the dead center of the lower border below the big axe. Is this MS, do you think? I don't know the significance if any.
Gaines, have you tried to decipher the red ribbon itself on page 25. I think it may be the more "hidden" clue on that page.

I have a hard time believing that MS would use binary code unless he had included it in the companion book. I'm hoping that some of the more hidden clues will help with the text. Since I'm also a painter, I'm trying to look at all the illustrations with an artist's eye to try to get into the "mind of MS".

Noadawn,

there was an error in the book, if you go to atreasuretrove.com then click on "The Book"
then click on errata
it says
P.98 second to last paragraph 4th sentence should read:
fly with a spider on her back and finally

:)
whisper

CAL56,
The man in the knothole on page 16 looks like some kind of creature to me and I have no idea what he is about. The one on page 55 actually looks like a man and could be our author. Why not? But what does it mean? That is the puzzler. As to the ribbon on page 25, I am assuming that you mean more in the ribbons than the obvious "Not on Private Property, Nor in Anyones Hands"? Honestly, I have not spent much time on this page. I do think that there is a hummingbird in the lower left corner (green and brown leaves) and a mole in the upper right corner (the gray leaf). Of course, there is a Pook! I have now found a Pook hidden on almost every page. Signifigance? No idea. I am in the process of blowing up the pages and getting a closer look. Very time consuming.

Whisper, my book says "fly with a spider on her back..." It says beetle twice, and Butterfly and Ant are never mentioned in that paragraph or in the correction you just mentioned...

Noadawn,

I think Whisper meant to delete the words "a beetle".

Jewels

Just picked up an issue of People magazine. It has an article about MS. He states that there is a 13th jewel...a crystal Pook...and to look on pg. 77 for a clue. Pg. 77 is an ad for Ocean Spray Cranberry juice. It does have this -

.....2/3.....

5 to a side?

Anyone else seen this?

In the PEOPLE magazine that I bought, I have found nothing about MS or the book.? It's the February 21, 2005 edition, right?? My page 77 starts the story featuring MR. Britney Spears.? Dang I got ripped off. >:(

It is the FEB. 28th edition with Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul on the front. Just came out today. Anyway, I think I was wrong on the pg. 77. I believe MS was referring to the page in the book and not the magazine. (DUH). I just thought he was being clever.
Anyway, the magazine article shows what the crystal Pook looks like..it is really cool looking. Worth the buy.

Hi, Gaines,
I know what you mean about time consuming. I've scanned in some pages to try negative imaging, skewing, etc to try to read some of the hidden letters. I know the dust has letters in it, but I just can't read them clearly enough. I would love to know exactly what size the original art works were to enlarge them to the original size.
In reference to your response, I meant the actual shapes of the red ribbons, starting at the bottom of the page and reading clockwize. Could be a red herring, since the naughty fairies straightened ribbons, I seem to remember.
However, after reading Doc's posting on tweleve.com on solving all the treasures simultaneously, I guess I'm thinking too simplistically. His stuff was beyond me - I'm not a crypto expert, obviously. I was hoping that MS would only use codes that were discussed in the companion book.
There are so many grammatical mistakes in the book that I've begun to try to see if there's an associated code. Have you tried that, too. I'm really getting frustrated!!!

Hi everyone-

On page 63- I tried an (not quite so successful) experiment

I wondered if the woodgrain was really some sort of topographical map.
So I made a color copy of the page then cut out all the woodgrains and tried to match them up like a puzzle.
All of the half circles matched up (only off one woodgrain on one) and about 85% of the straight grains lined up.
But I couldn't figure where to go from there and how to link them all- or even if they were supossed to link in the first place.

Has anyone else fiddled around with this?

Also, does anyone know what the leftover letters UGFXJ, KPCY, OZ not used in the "Reveals the maze where the trasures abide" line mean?
Or if there's any significance in the reversed out letterblocks LEOREG?

Traci

I tried connecting the dots (on page 64) but I think I'm missing something, or a cue as to the order of the the dots to connect.
Did you have any luck?

Also, notice that the last fairy faces right, all the others face left.
Don't know if this means anything.

Everyone this may be a clue I found that if you match up the color blocks on pg63
solid colors only I tried to match them all but I seem to only get words out of the
solid blocks anyways I got [green blocks [trees] [redblocks [find] pinkblocks[tie]
and [yellowblocks[hole] could this mean that the trees where the treasures are
have a pink tie around them......??????????tell me what you all think and also
let me know if you can get anything else out of the blocks I also matched up
just the background and still nothing see if you get anything .....happy huntings
* EVERYONE*
