Treasure Clue, can you help?

CAL56,
I dug this up from Tweleve: Page 63 contains a casesar cipher (-1) with the remaining letters: UFGXJ KPCY OZ. Take the letter before them in the alphabet and you have: TFEWIJOBXNY which anagrams to: "We fit Box J NY". Also, if you take each block by color and separate them and anagram each color grouping, you will have "Find the Trees Hole". Yellow on it's own gives us: "Log here" or maybe "Go Here L". What do you think? You may have know this and rejected it. I think you might be on to something with the blocks fitting into the grid.
Also, I have found a hidden Pook on nearly every page. I cannot imagine what it means. They sometimes seem to fade in and out (almost subliminal) and I have to look hard sometimes to find them again based on my notes.
The spider page seems to have some connection with page 88 and perhaps page 52 where the "O" is prominent. The "O' on 88 is made of vines at the very top and they might all be linked.
I am convinced that several of the pages are maps, but I still believe we need more exact clues from the text. So, I am reading the story over and over and over again! When I am very frustrated, I re-read various posts and usually find a new idea to intrigue me once again.

Sorry- TYPO--

pg. 93, #3 hidden on the dark LEAF in the bottom right corner...

Pg. 41 - i know we've said the empty space between the letters spell "an even code one piece 'nary'...
but is there significance to the 'letters' C (on the vine before the word 'An')- and the E (or W) & L (on the vine after the word 'Piece')? :o

hello im also new here. that seems to be the saying. anyway on pg16 if you hold the book upside down where the border message reads and. it looks as if after the d in and theres a 9. it came up well when i used my 3-d glasses. what does anyone else see. also it doesnt look like an s before the a either. also ive found some or most all of the hidden bugs, the really truely hidden bugs, except for the firefly and the grasshopper maybe someone knows where . thanks

Hi, Gaines,
Yes, I had gotten all of that before I even knew about any websites, except for the Caesar shift. I'm not totally satisfied by the "we fit box J NY." I guess it will make more sense later if we ever solve this thing.
Anyway, since you are on a Pook hunt and maybe have better eyes than I, have you magnified the spots on the Pook in the table of contents and on page 44?
Let me know what you think!
Chris

Hi, I'm new. Just got the book yesterday and I'm already addicted. Though I'm not much for solving the puzzles and clues from the story, I enjoy reading what everyone else has come up with. One thing that struck me, though, was that everyone may be looking too deeply into the drawings and words. The author has said that you don't need any special knowledge to solve the clues, and I think that every mention of specific ciphers, seeing faces in the knotholes, knowing the author's religion, etc is just going too deeply. The puzzle is supposed to be hard, but couldn't a lot of this stuff be red herring? Any writer genius enough to put this book together would surely include dead ends to throw people off the trail. It has always been my experience with these kinds of puzzles that the answer is right below the surface.

I'm not criticizing, though. I really respect you all for figuring out all the patterns and clues that I never could have found on my own.

You could be right, though I read somewhere that on every page there is a clue.
Part of me says that if the solution were so simple then the treasure would've been found by now.
The author did also say "you just have to figure out how I think"
Dunno.... Fun nonetheless....

Does anyone have the companion book? DOes it say anything about color ciphers? or anything similar that can be used to break page 31's border?

Chris,
The Table of Contents Pook is not that easy, even though it is so much larger. I see letters around his nose (F, for certain) and a combination of letters and numbers on the rest of his body. Beginning with his left forward foot, going right, and proceeding up Pook's body, I see: 4, I, JY, 36, 73 (upside down, but looks like 50 right side up), and inside the larger markings just below his ear, 633. All of these are open to question. I cannot see anything definite at this point on the other Pook. Perhaps I will enlarge them tonight.
A question for you. Do you feel that the companion book is helpful? I do not have it and was considering purchasing it.
Also, following the continued postings of Doc (and Calvin), I find that I am perhaps working the puzzle backwards. I am more focused on the tiny clues and clues in general leading me to specific states and locations within them. The code of numbers (which everyone keeps making a code of letters) is very difficult in my opinion. I leaned towards a zip code solution at one time, but think that perhaps the solution must cipertext into more precise directions. What are your thoughts?

Words of Warning

First off, let me state that I mean no disrespect to anyone here, but there seems to be a total lack of awareness that this is a contest, and not a share-and-share-alike endeavor. That said, do not believe everything that you read on this site. Confirm EVERYTHING! I have seen vague (unsure if this is deliberate or not) statements throughout this thread, as well as, downright misleading information; this isn't just in reference to Jet's comments.

Just be aware that while most of the people in this forum seem nice, they are quite possibly out for the money as well. The only way you can protect yourself is by double checking what you read. I'm here as an observer more than anything else, and will share what I feel is necessary. Again, no disrespect intended, but I want to find these jewels, and will use resources that are available to me.

Also, solving the puzzles and finding the tokens does you NO good if you are not also able to explain your reasoning. In this regard we have a public and private store of information to draw from. I will be more than willing to share some of the general information, the "hidden" poem, hidden creature locations, etc. But how I intend to or have been using this information is something that I plan on keeping to myself.

Good luck to all, and again please cover your backs. This hunt won't be comprised of honorable people only.

A Days Drive?

There have been a couple of posts about what exactly a days drive means.

I can say with about 99% certainty that the author does not mean a 24 hour drive. ?I would say that a days drive is closer to 8-10 hours. ?I don't believe he would be asking anyone to do more driving than a commercial driver does in a regular day. ?And, to be quite blunt, he is a truly evil man if he wants you to take a 24 hour trip with your kids cross country! ;)

You must also take into account that in some areas, there may be more than one token in your "immediate" vicinity.

I am from Houston, TX which leads me to believe that one token has been hidden in the Lone Star State. ?Either that, or Louisina, Oklahoma, Arkansas or Mississippi; those being the only states reachable for me in 8-10 hours.

The biggest question I have yet to answer is whether the clues to specific locations are something only a native of the area would be able to know. ?It leads me to believe that most, if not all, of the tokens are hiding in very well know areas around town. ?I'd venture a guess that Central Park is home to one for sure. ?:o ?Please note, I have no information that leads me to that conclusion, just a hunch backed by what I deem some pretty strong common sense.

Re: A Days Drive?

Yo, pancho_semplice. I'm in Houston, too. I don't think there's a token here, not from anything gleaned from the book, but because we are so close to the coast, wouldn't be a "days drive" for anyone living out in the gulf. If there's one in Texas, I'd think Austin, or maybe Dallas would be a better bet.

Did you go see the jewels or to the book signing over the weekend? I couldn't make it. Was wondering how it went.....

I was unable to stop by to see the jewels or Mr. Stadther. The only reason I believe Houston is a good location is that we are 8 hours from Brownsville which is the last stop you can make going south. Plus we are 8 hours from El Paso which is your last stop to the West. I do agree that Austin may be a good location too, however, I don't think Dallas is a possibility, kinda far removed from the south side of Texas.

Polkadot, i believe that the piece of glass is an arrow. ive followed it to the smaller cauldron its pointing to and ive folllowed that also and dont see what im supposed to see. theres also another arrow pointing back down . it also looks like a piece of glass. cant make anything out. i have found the sock stuck in the crevasse the fairie left if follow rusfuls eyes its sitting sideways. also just below that is the letter s . below that in the very black spot is the snail hes als sideways. i blew it up on my scanner to make sure what i was seeing and it was. anyway at the top of the photo i can make out the letters t w o and another t but that is all so far i can only look at this red pic so long. the only thing is is that is the 2nd hidden snail ive found is in anas hair in the highlights on her right side of her head in the photo of her being carried up by the darklings. well thats all.

CMSCHUT

i see the snail. real hard to make out cuz it's so tiny. i'll have to scan it like you said and take a closer look to see for sure.
letters i see clearly in the pic from left to right (at various heights top to bottom) are: RVELMFSAHVTTRYNVJIV

also note the cup handle under the big pot on the right. another arrow, pointing left?

having trouble seeing the smail in ana's hair- could be, dunno...

PANCHO SEMPLICE

i hear ya. definitely confirm any clues before absorbing them. as for the 'race to the treasure'- may the best egg win. keep key clues under your hat or share them with all. but for me- just figuring out the puzzles is fun enough. ya'll buy me a six pack of pbr if you find anything. ;)

frankly i'd be amazed if i ever figure this thing out.

im not sure of the page # but it is the page with the picture of the darklings lifting ana from the forest. if you look by her right ear and turn the book so that the picture page is up youll see the snail outlined by highlights in her hair. also followed the arrow to the left there is another arrow to the left if you follow across to the next pot. it also looks like a piece of glass. i follow it down but all i see is a w outlined in the pointy rocks on bottom. ps in addition to the 3-d glasses i also purchased a light i can change lenses with different color lenses. it helps some. thanks polkadot ican see more of those letters you see not all though yet.

CMSCHUT- yeah, that does look a li'l like a snail in her hair. could be...

i see the arrow you mentioned. across the bottom there's defintely something written there. here's the letters i see just on the bottom, from left to right:

M, F (just under the M), A, sideways T, lowecase 'r', possible an N in that same rock, M and/or W. ???

also see XIV in rusful's hair - possiblly a 'C' his ear and a 'B' on his face :-\

i'm starting to think i'm seeing too much

has anyone else been able to make sense of this page (pg. 80) yet?
