Treasure Clue, can you help?

I am new. ?This is just an idea I had. ?It may not go anywhere.

The poem:

An even code with one piece nary will spell out the sanctuary
Within the text you have the key ?for the one that is missing you did not see
with name in hand the fairies know and they will tell you where to go
A code of numbers five to a side, reveals the name where the treasures abide
Seize your token and reach your goal ?it is not half it is not whole

"within the text you have the key for the one that is missing you did not see" - The text is composed of the letters of the alphabet. ?The letter "Q" ?is not anywhere in the book, so that letter could be "the one that is missing".

There are 26 letters in the alphabet. ?Take away the "Q" and there are only 25 letters remaining. ?25 letters fit nicely into the "five to a ?side". ?25 boxes, one letter per box, arranged in a square five to a side.

The questions are (1) how to arrange the letters in the boxes and (2) what to do with them once you have them arranged.

Does this make since to anyone else?

Safire- great observation!
That ties in with the solid blocks in the word 'The' in the header of the paragraph.
I didn't think of that. :)

Montgomery, in order to arrange the letters in some sort of a key block, you'll need to know the sequence of numbers that is referred to in the poem. After reading the solution to the Blaine challenge, I've started to think differently.

Did anyone figure out the significance of the tools on pg. 19? I see a couple of obvious things: the numbers 5,7,3,4,5,7,8,9 on the rulers. The leaf lower left corner, 2,2,3 (dashes). I also noticed there are a couple of tools arranged in similar ways. I think I see a 7,4, and possibly a 3 in them. The square (7), the hand drill, the hammer, and the divider, (4), and the drill again for a 3 (on its side). That may be stretching a bit, but they pictures are repeated almost exactly which tells me that number/letter was repeated. Just some thought to this page which is driving me nuts. Noob here btw...

I believe that the sequence of numbers is held in the drop caps with faries.

They have the key in their hands. More than likely the keys are "clock positions" with the visible fingers as modifiers (perhaps 7:30 on a clock looks like 7,6...with 4 fingers showing it might be 11,10 or 28,24 or 24, 20, or 7,6,4). Anyhow, I'm just learning how to use this kind of information in puzzles. If it is correct, a lot of the numeric puzzles in the book might use the resulting 5x5 enciphering to give word solutions.

Keep in mind that the p.20-21 drop cap is a picture of a "reversed" fairy. The spider-like spot on his shirt is on the wrong side.

on the page (p.25) there is a red ribbon and if u look closely it repeats so this would me it spells out
Not on private propeaty nor in anyone's hands

On page 54 there is a picture of a tree with no knothole in it or anything. Put if you look at the fence that is in front of it, it looks like if it were to be a solid block it would form a picture. Any ideas on what it means?

look for the forest that is not Forest

Has anyone actually figured out what any of the clues mean. Like I know what the clues are and, what they are asking for, but I have no idea what is going on or what the clues mean or anything like that. What are some clues that you are like 95% sure about and what exactly are we looking for?

Forest = For rest
?

Regarding p.54: In photoshop, Fill -> pattern.

But wait, there's more.

p. 36 only 10 leaves are spotted (in top right corner)

p.36 picture is before the house was built

p.36 word in green border may be 'radio', 'rapid', 'bario', or 'bard'

p.36 has 26 beings (24 faries and 1 doth, and 1 halfling)

p.36 bottom left 2 faries look at 1 acorn, the one on the right is squatting over 'pleasure' or 'pressure'

Instead of looking at the pictures we should look at the words. On page 48 if you look closely at the leaves on the side you will read that they say "with in the text you have the key" so maybe we are looking at this wrong. Plus it says all we need to know is how to read so i have been fliping around the book looking for words going down the side or secences of every __ words or letters I think that might be the real key to the clues and the jewels what do u think?

CAL56,
Yes, frustration abounds! I went away for the weekend and I tried not to think about the book the entire time! So, today I am back and trying to approach it from a new angle. I am attempting to push all pre-conceived notions from my mind (especially Doc's, which are way over my head) and to read the story AGAIN and see if anything new stikes me. I did have a look at the ribbons on page 25, but do not see any definite letters or numbers. I am seeing more and more small print (letters and numbers) on every page, but nothing definite. I think a big clue is "in the text", but nothing is jumping out at me - especially with the five to a side thing. I am hopeful that not all of the puzzles will be solved that way and that perhaps I can stumble onto something that may lead somewhere without that special code. I do enjoy reading all the post on Tweleve, even if they are sometimes overwhelming. So many ideas! Keep trying!

Wondered where you were. Well, I spent a lot of the weekend on this quest. There weren't many posts on tweleve - maybe we're all getting frustrated. Several things occur to me... we have still not solved the primary messages in at least 4 borders. I don't think Mike spent all those years creating all the artwork for it not to contribute significant info to the puzzle. Until each border is "solved" I think it's premature to try to solve the grids. Things the I'm still working on;
1. ugfxjkpcyoz - is not a caesar shift, and I haven't found the correct key to use the Vigenere code
2. the border on 20-21. I decided to just look at each diamond (square), join the two colors - eg ybk for yellow and black - and went conterclockwise starting with the left border below the spider. There are repeating color combinaitons - would you believe 26! Maybe this is just a straight cryptogram based on frequency. The companion book is full of them. The only problem is where each word would end. Someone suggested that blackblack would end stuff. Now I'm going to try reading clockwise.
I agree that Doc's info is "out there."
Also still wondering if all the mistakes in punctuation in the book are intentional - eg a concealed code. Just like "repositorys" was a hint.
Glad you're back in the hunt!

I am quite sure that the various number scattered throughout the book (roman numerals, marks on rulers, the date MS made the illustration- such as "03", etc.) are relevant to the 5 to a side riddle, and if everyone could put up any hidden numbers that they have found I'm sure it would help us all out.
