I wrote that incorrectly....I was NOT putting the original poster down....

I worded my post incorrectly...I continued my sentence instead of making a new one....

This is how it should have read:

If I ever even managed to find time to treasure hunt that might work! lol Always so busy trying to work one job and get another started that it seems the hunt gets stuck on the back burner. Praise God I get to work around treasure hunting supplies and books all the time and have TreasureNet to come to in the evenings and early mornings! :D :D

Back in the stone age, before PC's became popular and anything about any war with Archies was known, I helped cofound a MD club. It was a metal detecting AND archeological club...so all were included.

I see in the news all the time anymore that famous archeological finds are being returned to the country of origin ...only because of lawsuits of the original owners or countries. Otherwise..even for archies, it's finders keepers.

I think it's a far difference between raiding a tomb that people can walk into and be awed at what was burried with kings, to a field that a battle was fought and no one will ever see whats under the ground.

Times have changed.!

The problem with that archaeologists going off on the bottle digger is that he looses all credibility in his rant. Not that he had any to start with. Here is the problem:

"Those are artifacts, all of the items. everything that you disturbed while looking for bottles and cash reward has been taken out of any possible historical context and is thus completely useless in providing any understanding of our collective American history."

It is an outhouse. The items were thrown down the hole. There is NO context in a privy hole. This shows the idiotic, concieted mentality of this guy.

This archaeologists (so called) that still has your "artifacts" after all these years is breaking the law. They are not immune from the same laws that we must follow. I would not threaten a lawsuit. I would demand they be returned immediatley. If not then go to your state attorneys office and tell them you want to press charges. If the items were in his private home then it shows a clear intent of theft. Not only of your property but of "historical relics". I would add fraud to those charges also. I would press it hard. I would also contact a few newspapers and give him (and his profession) the PR they deserve.

Mark....he's returned everything that he had in his home....there are a few items that are apparently still being "recovered"...different items in different locations. We did the newspaper thing and finally paid off...that is how everything was returned, that he had.

However, I am now working on another case about ARCHIES....I am tired of US (metal detectors) being the BAD GUYS and GALS....and just cause a couple of MD'ers don't follow the rules....DO NOT BLAME ME for what someone else did or did not do!!! UGH!!!!!!!

Have a great day!

To Ron and Ann,

HIP HIP HOORAY !!!!!!
Thank you for defending the MD shield

Maybe you should BASH Archies on your own posts...in the meantime, Mr. 1 Post-Producer might actually come back and read this...

And he or she will probably be thinking WTF!

Way to make a lasting first impression.

email him the thread
and perhaps he/they will address the above questions ?

I recommend the Bilndbowman or stilldiggin for the job

They seem to know everything. Just ask them !

OK, has anybody emailed this gentleman yet and gotten a response? If so, what did he say? I'm just curious, personally I prefer to keep my hunting confined to myself and will show my finds on posts frequented by like-minded MD'ers. Also, I'd hate to see a mass invasion of well-meaning yet ill-informed new MDer's who were suddenly "inspired" by a few episodes hit the field, tear a bunch of stuff up because they saw a few shows and now "know it all", and inadvertantly cause even greater restrictions on our hobby than there already are.

If there were a show like this I would most definitely watch it, but I submit that it be something like this:

1) More than one host, or, a main host that travels to various locations to showcase other MDer's and hunt with them.

2) ALL hunts for old coins and relics MUST be done on private property. These hunts MUST be stressed that they are occurring on private property with the owners permission. A segment on how to obtain permission should be done too along with PROPER TARGET RECOVERY. AT NO TIME should a hunt for old coins and relics be done on public property. Beach hunting and prospecting is fine as-is though. This will involve a more lengthy process in getting releases from landowners and also insurance issues, nut I think it's important.

3) As far as Coins, Jewelry, and Relics are concerned, this show MUST be done in such a way to put a HIGHLY postive spin on Metal Detecting as a HOBBY...NOT an OCCUPATION. NO emphasis should be put on the intrinsic value of ANYTHING MANMADE....NONE!!!....PERIOD!!!!

4) There ARE archaeologists out there who work in conjunction with hobby MDer's and hold us in a positive light (not many, but they're out there)....FIND THEM and get them in front of a camera. I'm speaking of archaeologists in the US. Also, I recommend that a trip be made to England where the majority of the archies "get it". A trip to England should include a hunt with participation by Crown Archaeologists and attention should be paid to how, in the UK, hobby detectorists have been beneficial to the discovery of new archaeological sites. The Crown's compensation of finders and landowners should also be heavily hit on. Also, be the bigger person and keep it positive and refrain from finger-pointing at the "EVERYTHING in the ground is MINE MINE MINE" attitude displayed by most archies in the US ( I know, I loathe them too and equate them to nothing more than a bunch of hypocritical, state-sanctioned grave robbers who are lower than whale dookie.....but leave the finger-pointing to them and their ilk).

5) Sponsorship by manufacturers of Metal Detectors and accessories, High-Volume dealers, and organizations such as the FMDAC should also be sought.

AGAIN: WHO is this gentleman? WHAT and/or WHO does he represent? WHAT are his credentials? and WHAT is his objective beyond the brief (and only) post that he has made on here?

Anyway, those are my thoughts on all of this.

Hello Treasure Net

Wow.

I have read each post in this thread. Remember, as promised, I will respond to everyone that emailed personal information to cabletvshow1@gmail.com address I provided.

First let me express my sincere admiration at the level of online community evidenced here on Treasure Net – not just in this thread, but all over the domain. My thanks to the administrators and moderators that policed the discussion; you allowed the free and open flow of information – thank you.

Consequently we have harvested some good candidates from this discussion and another similar thread on antique-bottles.net (and one on Civil War Bullet, and Talk Treasure, but, its worth noting here, my post was instantly deleted from Treasure Quest.)

As you all have helped me, I feel obliged to answer some of your questions, as best I can, here in this forum.

RE: Candidates?
We are very impressed with some individuals that have come from TreasureNet. As I have not yet spoken to these people, I will not elaborate at this time, and will not likely ever write any more on this subject.

RE: Our identity?
Another subject off limits is ‘our business’.

RE: TV Show Concept?
We love all your ideas. In fact, I personally think a television show featuring ‘team orientated treasure hunting’ is a terrific concept, but it’s not the premise we are moving forward at this time – our series idea is not a treasure hunting show.

Without divulging ANY clues… the ‘metal detector’ in our concept is simply a tool, like a magnifying glass or an infrared camera. The show invents new ways to tell history stories from the ground up. We seek an expert ‘bottle digger’ only for his (or her) passion, (and wisdom) which is, in my experience, something money can’t buy, and actors can’t fake.

I sincerely appreciate all the help we have received on Treasure Net. This forum will be the first place we post updates, and any future requests.
