Unknown Gold Detector?? Help

[treasuredigger]

My Friend and I are trying to figure out what is this detector. The glass piece has gold Leaf floating in it. Very curious if anyone has any information on this type of detector? Was handed down by his GrandFather. Thanks

What book? You must be referring to a dowsing book. The book pictured actually seems like a pretty good book about minerals and ores. Here it is in full text. http://www.archive.org/stream/undergroundtreas00ortorich/undergroundtreas00ortorich_djvu.txt
