hi everyone, I'm new to this site and fairly new to metal detecting. I have been detecting now for about 4 months with a metal detector from canadian tire that costs about $80.00 and I have had alot of fun with it. I like the simplicity of the machine but now I would like to move up to something that can tell me the difference between trash and something good like a coin or ring. I was looking at the garrett at pro but then I saw the minelab e trac out perform the a t pro. I am new to detecting but I dont want to buy something and 2 months later wish I had spent an extra $200 and gotten the right machine. I am looking to spend $800.00-$1000.00 and I would consider a used detector. Any advise that anyone can give would be awsome!

Kaywood, I use the Whites M-6,very simple machine,no programing, runs silent, till ya hit a target of course, you have seven tone which I like, once you have a 100 or so hours,it becomes a pretty good friend. I have over 3200 hrs. in the last 28 months,I'm retired and that's all I do is hunt, you'll dig your share of trash now, save all your copper and brass,it adds up $$$! The good finds make, lets say, a RUSH, OOOOH,that's COOL,let me find some more!!! There a LOT of detectors on the market.Whites has been at it over 60 yrs.,they had to have learned something, their running with the big dogs. You'll need a good pair of headphones,I use Black Widows,a good digging tool,I use a Lesche, and, a pin pointer,I use a SunRay,I really like the DD 6x10 coil also it separates pretty darn good in trashy areas, you'll end up getting them all anyway, that is if you stay in it ,which I hope you do,it certainly has it's moments. Oh ya,do your research well, that is a big bonus! God Bless Chris

Hello all, newly retired wanna be prospector from a state that has little documented gold. Hiking exploring and relic hunting are passions of mine and now I have the time to find some gold. Which beckons my curiosity....is there any significant placer gold in the NY Tri-state area? With water levels rising, natural erosion should be yielding clues to days long past.

Hello,

My name is Joshua Wiltshire and I'm sharing an account with my best mate, Jack Archer.
We thoroughly enjoy history and are treasure hunting enthusiasts and have been for some time.
We are interested in all aspects of treasure hunting, mainly in shipwrecks, artefacts and relics and coins.

We are based in Adelaide, South Australia but often travel.

Keen to network with other enthusiasts and broaden our interests and knowledge on treasure hunting!

Cheers,

J Wiltshire

Hi there. I'm from Asia and I have some treasure hunting activities going on. We have found suspicious metal in the mountainous which are reached by Japanese during the World War II. Could someone help us in analyzing our area since we found an almost 8 sq.m. in the middle of the creek. Unfortunately the locals had already destroyed the signs when we arrived. All we have now is an egg shaped multicolored stone marked with letter M.

Hope somebody from this site can help us.
