Hi all,

I'm so excited about this I can hardly stand it! We've been enjoying the week with the kids (off school for spring break) but I've been going out for morning hunts during the week when the weather is good. We had 2 solid days of rain, but this morning the sun was out, so I was able to get out and slosh around in the mud..I checked several schools (I've been to each one sooooo many times) hoping to find something more than clad. Unfortunately that's all I found, so I decided to call it quits.

As I was driving home I made a last-minute decision to go back to this other school where I had found a silver quarter on Monday..by this time I was really tired and was getting hungry, but I thought maybe I'd spend a half hour or so in the same area to see if maybe I could find another silver coin.

When I arrived I went back to the same general area where I found the quarter, and right away I found a couple of clad quarters and a dime. The ground oozed water with every step, but at least I was finding more coins. Then about 15 minutes into my search (around 12:00 noon CDT) I got a nickel signal..I always dig nickels so I began to dig. To my surprise, out popped MY FIRST 14K GOLD RING! At first I thought it was electroplate or costume (what I usually get from grammar schools), so I feverishly rubbed the mud off the inside of the band. I didn't see anything at first, but even without my reading glasses I was able to see 14K and I was just thrilled..it was a nice sized ring too!

In all, I found $7.14 in clad (29 Lincoln Memorial pennies, 11 nickels, 23 dimes and 16 quarters). I also found a wheat penny (1948-D).

Here's the photos of my finds..hope you're all having a great day, mine couldn't be better!

Nat

Natman,

Congratulations my friend...

I am going with a real diamond too...looks great...polish that bad boy up and wear it proudly...

Way to go on the quarter...

I think I will go play in the mud too...

Nick

Thanks Nick, the stone had a bluish shine in the sunlight..it's not large, but I think you're right, it's probably real. As for playing in the mud, have at it! You may have to wear rubber boots..there was standing water in some places where I was.

Harry, like most every silver coin I've ever dug, they come out of the ground that way..I just rinsed it off with water. I knew it was pre-1965 immediately. To me, the best experience digging up a silver coin is when it's cloudy and the earth is really dark (those were the conditions on Monday here when I found it.) The contrast is unbelievable and the coin looks almost white.

Thanks Glenn, it was my first ever 14K. I've dug silver, gold electroplate, gold filled, 10K, costume, etc. but never one of these.

Thanks guys
