What Do you Want On Your Tombstone ??

Well my wife, the kids, and myself went camping over the weekend and I was under the impression from a "ranger" that MD'ing was OK, but when I went to get my permit I was told it was a no go .

So I thought I would look around for old thing when I found this 1854 tombstone and then thought it would be neat in the fasion of the TNet car show to show the oldest tombstones that hunters have found So here is my find !

Here is one from an old graveyard that just caught my attention
I can't find the pics of the other ones I took from there but one grave stone read " these 7 men killed by indians 1890's" and it was full of children from that era that died of disease.

I heard my epitaph while in the Army. I'll have to censor it a bit. Okay, a lot..

"They call my Twiddly Binder
Long ---- and ----- finder.
----- taker, ------ breaker,
Honey, just call me your baby-maker"

All of this, of course, at epitaph time, in the past tense. And not hellishly-politically-correct, neither.

This pic is the stone of my g-g-g-g-g grandfather. The epitaph reads "Oh why should we shed these notes of grief, why should we thus complain. What now to us is loss severe, is his eternal gain."

Nothing poetic for me....cremation is the only way to go! I told my DH to sprinkle the ashes on a dance floor and have every one dance over me! Lol

I'm guessing that your g-g-g-g-g grandfather was a Rev. War vet? Wait, I just did the math. Born 1788? Maybe a War of 1812 veteran.

LMAO.... ....now that is funny as all get out!!!!!!!!!

As far as what I would want? Hmmm... haven't really decided yet....but it would have to be related to genealogy and possibly metal detecting...but since I plan to have a burial at sea with my grandfather (I still have his cremains, he passed away March 1984)..guess it don't matter much what I plan to have on my headstone . Granddaddy was a WWI Vet, Army and me being retired Navy....the Army and Navy are together as a team once again...so we are going to have a double burial at sea...granddaddy and I!!!!

I have a collection of headstones, as I am trying to record all cemeteries, including mom and pop ones....for my genealogical research in my local area....couldn't say off hand what my oldest one is...so many! I love reading what folks have put on their headstones!!!!!!!

He was born on 10/17 & died 10/16 (dates are numerically backwards)
The 9 in the year he died is backwards
He was 87, She was 78 (her age is reversed ...or his is)

Maybe I'm not getting this, but the only thing I can see wrong with the stone is the "9" in "1911" is backwards.

According to the stone, the man died 1 day before his 87th birthday and the woman (who lived to be 77) died 3 months before her 78th birthday.

I've heard some good ones...

And I only have pics of new grave stones (lost two family members so far this year ).

But I think a good Tnet themed grave stone would have a shovel attached to it with 6+ feet of chain that says...

"I dare you to dig this one up!"

I'd like to be buried right next to someone I despise..my stone would read, "I'M WITH STUPID" with an arrow pointing to the grave next to me.
