And charl what is your icon picture of ?

The bit looks beveled from both sides and is centered and straight ..that plus what looks like a smoothed area from being in haft makes it loook like a very nice chipped stone celt to me.

Can you see that "line" crossing the width of the piece?

It would have been used just like an axe or hatchet.
The ones hafted perpendicular to the handle are bevled from one side to create basically a swinging chislel..(adze) a celt with a straight centered bit edge was for chopping directly through wood whereas an adze was for removing chips and layers.

That find of yours would be the centerpiece of many collections.

I'm pretty sure it's a flaked Celt and a fine one at that. With the black dots, can you scrape them off with a finger nail, with ease? The black spots I'm used to scrape off with no trouble.

NC. I know what you're talking about.. on wet environment finds.
I think his is different.
You mean stuff like this right?

It is my center piece and no they don't scratch of easy :) I'm looking at it right now lol I can't stop I can't wait to go back to that spot lol

Not really bro. What I'm talking about is from wet areas. I guess it's a mildew of sorts. I'll look for a piece with the spots on it.

Looks like what some folks call oolitic , or oolithic. Google search oolithic chert, great find. thanks for the view.

He had the answer pages ago.

All jokes aside, uranium is plentiful here. They mine it pretty close to where this piece was found. Mine it, however they get uranium. Lol
