Well, I am very happy ya'll FINALLY figured this one out LOL....I personally, was going for the pedal of an old sewing machine!!! And the door knocker was a very good guess too

Looks like there are small pins protruding from the top piece. This would mean that there is something else that would fit onto the square part. Maybe the two that were found fit back to back?
