what the #@%&*!this was found in a barn by my brother-inlaw in a barn in al. i took this pic. it is not a hinge, i put a dime next to it so you can see the size of the object. good luck

The circles on either side would allow for leading the target. Not exact just a sample idea.

Both good guesses.Although i've been known to open a beer bottle with many objects that were not intended for that use.
Then again,i've used a beer bottle for a door knocker before too!

Here's some pics of some chicken brooder ads from an old 1929 magazine I have . They made scores of differant designs and patents back then .
I realise this doesn't show the exact part , but I think it went to the automatic temp control . The end with the small hole had a wire or rod that attached to the heat sensor above the stove. When things got too hot the sensor would move the armature closing the air intake . Those circle areas with spaces are for weight and balance for the sensitive heat sensor , which may have been bimetallic - not sure .
I hope I'm not way out in left field , remember there were lots of differant types and designs .

This picture is from a 1916 poultry magazine .The two double -disc thermostats rested on the floor in tandem under the armature end . The thermostats were flat circular wafer type objects and would raise and lower the the arm - moving the rod connected to the flue . This is not the exact model in question ,but the same principle of operation .
