Who collects halves for more than silver value?

I've got a 1949 Ben that is almost FBL (I think...I'm not really a collector, so I can't judge FBL)...and a small handful of 1965 JFKs that are BU. I feel guilty having them, because all I value them for is their silver content. I really think someone else would appreciate these more than I do because they are collector quality. All I really want these things for is the silver content…finding them for face value is fun…but I don’t really have an artistic appreciation for them. If I want to enjoy the art, I can simply find an image of a proof Walker or Franklin online and be happy with that.

Any of you guys in the same situation? How do you handle it? Just suck it up and handle it like a man? Take them to your coin shop and trade for junk silver? Anyone interested in helping me?

I also have ~20 Barber Quarters....I saved out the highest quality one in an Airtite...and the rest are just silver to me. I have a feeling someone else would appriciate these, while I'd be just as happy with some Washingtons...

Solid idea....Do you do trade at a coin shop or do you sell and then buy from APMEX or some other source?

I save all my silver, I do not sell it, I guess I am attached to it and would only sell it in desprate needs of money. Just curious, can you post a picture of the coins?

I collect all 90% silver coins for more than their melt value. The only coins i've ever sent to be melted were 40% silver halves. I also don't care much for 1964 Kennedy's; I've saved a few of the nicest BU examples I've come across, and I accumulate the rest in rolls and sell them to local coin shops.
I am currently trying to complete a circulated Roosevelt dime collection from rolls. I also collect Merc's, but I am buying those now because I rarely get them in rolls and when I do, they are worn and/or common date.

Fist: If I can upgrade to twice the silver value, why not? I'd like to hear your opinion...because I'm torn. Yeah, these are old....yeah, they are cool to have...but...twice as many washington silvers doesn't sound too bad...ya know?

The 49 Franklin is nice for a circulation find, but it is no FBL. The fields are dirty (scuffs and scratches - what you expect being in circulation) and the devices are not defined enough to carry a premium over melt. Nice find for face.

I got into CRHing just for the coins. I didn't do halves for the longest time because I was too occupied with pennies. I don't ever intend on parting with them (I'm 20). I'm third generation coin collector

Sorry to be a Debby Downer but that Franklin half is not FBL nor is it close to one.
I see no lines whatsoever. Yes, I do collect coins other than silver found in circulation.

nope...all silver proofs (even really nice ones), AU/BU condition old silver, barbers, even seated liberty is all just junk to me, and gets rolled up with all of my common silver and stashed away...i feel kinda bad putting nice proofs thru my coin counter to roll it up, but you gotta do what you gotta do...and just for the record, i cant sell any of you the nice proofs, or seated lib, or any of it, cuz its already rolled up and in my safe deposit box...sorry...keep it up and hh!
