Civilman and I hit the house that produced the 1784 counterfit
coin last weekend. We had high hope for a good hunt and were
not disappointed!
Joe and I quickly found a large cent each. We waited for a break
to clean them to see what exactly we found. Boy, was I surprised!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had to have Joe verify what I thought I was seeing. He did.
I was lucky enough to find a King Georgius III Rex 1776!!!
What are the odds of finding two rare coins in two hunts?
NOTHING could bring me down after that.
I went on to find a dateless Indian, a flat button with some gold guilt,
A small buckle, and a Lions' leg furniture foot. I'll let Joe share his finds
with you.

Post the other side of the coin. If there's any detail it will probably be easy to say whether it's 1775 or 76, the 1775s fool a lot of people because the "5" can look very close to a "6"

The Bust side is usually quite different for each.

Re: 1776 Birth of a nation coin

Nice going on the finds, but like Iron Patch, I am not convinced on the date. Not necessilarily a Machin's Mills if 1776, could be just a Imitation Counterfeit from 1776, both the Imitation and the Machin's Mills 1776 circulated freely.

The details in the photo are not clear enough to identify the date for sure and then if it is Machin's or an Imitation.

Both Machin's and Imitation Halfpennies for 1776 are about the same in value. Rarity is not a super high one for 1776, but if it is a 1776 that would be great.

Is the Obverse side in bad shape that you did not post it? And yes a 5 and 6 are very hard to tell the difference on a lot of the colonials......

Not a whole lot of detail except for the sharp lines on the sleeve.

Can't say. How about a real close shot of the date? As I said some 5s are close to a 6 but just not quite closed.

Burdie

Maybe this site will be kind to us a few more times.
There is still so much property we haven't touched.
We have been concentrating on the garden and
aroun the houses. Who knows what's in those fields
and lanes. There is also the old Lime Kiln that we
haven't even seen yet.
Thanks alot, Burdie.
